Blessed - could it have been just that normally male thing of forgetting birthdays? I don't know, we haven't dealt with birthdays yet, but I know that some people will never forget our baby, but may not tell us that. The "chin up" may have been because he doesn't know what else to say, but I agree it's offensive.

I think he needs to know how important it is for you to have your family acknowledge your sons' birthday and support you during these times.
