Sorry for the late response. Honestly have just popped back home after a 2 week holiday where I did not log into the computer once.

We headed straight to the emergency department of the closest hospital as soon as we arrived in Sydney 2 Saturdays ago. We got turned away from 2 hospitals due to the fact that they don’t have qualified staff on site to conduct ultrasounds and since I was in no pain they dismissed our worries as being silly. We headed to a 3rd hospital and were ushered straight through to emergency and had a check by a trainee doctor. She could not feel my uterus either and after taking a history she went to find the senior doctor on site. When he arrived he did a big feel around and was very calm and professional and reassuring. By this stage however we were panicking. He said that everything felt fine, went and got a Doppler and we heard the little heartbeat.

Just to make sure we were feeling ok, he went and collected a small ultrasound machine and showed us bub and the beating heart to make sure we relaxed and calmed down a bit. So the good news is all is fine. The bad news is he was really upset that a midwife had scared us so badly and said that even if there was nothing wrong the stress and anxiety that she put us through could have caused something to go wrong. So we will be heading 500km away for each routine check of bubs now and not heading back to the local midwife!

Thanks so much for all the kind words and wishes.

Inga - so glad everything turned out. I agree with the dr - definitely don't go back to the midwife. She really shouldn't have voiced her concerns as she had no way to check.

Good luck for the next 20 weeks! :-)
