    TMI Warning - D&C Infection??

Like I said TMI warning but I am starting to wonder if I've developed a bit of an infection after my D&C.

I saw my GP last week & she said the bleeding was normal to watch out for any pains & smells, (sorry yuck I know) & at the time of the appointment everything seemed ok, but over the weekend my bleeding has changed colour from a light red to a darker almost brownish colour & seems a little mucas like.

Again sorry TMI , but I am really starting to worry a little

Can anyone tell me if this is something they experienced after D&C? Is this normal?

After my D&C, I had mainly darker coloured blood for about 10 days. It did turn brownish towards the end, and sort of stringy which I guess you could describe as mucousy. Unless you have an offensive odour - different odour to what you are used to, then I wouldn't worry too much just yet.

I spoke to the clinic nurses on Thurs when my bleeding got heavier after last weeks D&C. She went into a lot of detail with me and said that the bleeding will get brown towards the end and I'm guessing as your mucus returns it will be a mix of both so try not to worry but maybe ring your clinic anyway if it will give you peace of mind.

    Take care,

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Ausgirl & Alice - this sounds exactly like what I have.... so it might finally be all over with.

Feels like Ive been waiting forever & then when it changed colour all of a sudden I thought 'Geez kick a girl while she's down & give me infection on top of everything else why dont you!'
So THANK YOU thats the best news Ive had in the last few weeks.

PS: Yes would've been awfully nice if some medical staff had mentioned that it was going to Suddenly go brown.

    Firsstly, hugs for you xx

If you are pain free and feel fine physically as in no temps etc, I agree with the other girls. Just keep an eye on it because I developed a humungus clot after my D & C and went back to hospital 3 days afterwards because i was in pain.

    Keep well

Like everyone else said, if you're not experiencing pain it is probs normal. I bled for around 21 days, all red, and then started to get a temp, felt hot all the time, and finally abdo pain. Ended up getting PID from my D&C, it took a long time to clear up and left some scarring So watch out for those things, but otherwise sounds normal

    D & C post op care

I had my D & C yesterday after I miscarried my 13 week old bub.

My blood loss has been very mild and I have had no clots or pain. I was told before the procedure that 5% of women often have remains left in the uterus and can require a repeat D & C. The Doctor said this would most likely be the case if I passed clots, so something to look out for.

I was told to present to ED if I had:
    - Fever of 38 degrees or higher
    - Foul smelling discharge
    - Pain not controlled by panadine
    - excessive bleeding (more than one pad per hour)

and to follow up with my GP if I passed any clots.

I saw my GP today who is an ex-Gynocologist who said I should have been put on antibiotics as routine follow up care and promptly started me on a course of Keflex (not something mentioned by any of the Doctors at the Hospital before or after my procedure) but I trust my GP so it could be worth the follow up if you are worried. I also was not told about the brown discharge however from my Nursing back ground (surgical) I know brown discharge is often (but not always) a sign of old blood so I would hazard a guess that you have stopped bleeding and the last of it is working out of your system.

Hope that is the case and I wish you well in your healing.

    Hi everyone
Well after a couple of days of brownish loss it appears that my bleeding has completely tappered off *YaY*. 3 weeks & 1 day since my MC.

Carol5978 - I am so sorry for your loss too. I hope you find some comfort in here knowing that there is always someone who understands what you've been through & what you're feeling.

Im not sure if everyone is the same but just be prepared for a slightly heavier loss around 3 days after your D&C. I was really shocked by it, I would assume it is from getting up & moving around quite a bit more after having 2 days rest after OP?
