So I had my d&c this morning. It went well and I don't really have any pain or cramping - just a few niggles - but I don't know what happens now? Even the bleeding is quite light at the moment? When do I get a period? Do I have a cycle between now and then and can I ttc? Do I wait for a period and then ttc? Should I expect more pain than this? More bleeding? I was too distraught yesterday and this morning to really ask these questions.
Hun did they give you a number you can call post surgery? I'm sure lots of the girls in here will give you some great advice as they will have been through it themselves.
It was a fairly "gentle" procedure I think (pessarie + suction?) and no antibiotics. My post op instructions say no sex for 2 days and expect intermittent bleeding and no aspirin.
I am so sorry for your loss. It is such a terrible time so huge hugs. After both of my d&c's I had AF 4-6 weeks later. Which means you would ovulate prior to that so if you are ready to ttc straight away you technically may not see another AF if you fall pg straight away. From memory the bleeding was similar to a normal AF and lasted about as long. Pain was managable with panadol. Big big hugs, having a miscarriage is such an empty feeling, your little one will always hold a special place in your heart, I know my two little angels do and it's been 4 years since I lost my first. Big big hugs, allow yourself time to heal and grieve.
Hey CF..
I lost my baby at 10 weeks and had a D&C - same as you pessary and suction. My pain was quite bad and the hospital gave me panadeine forte, it was pretty much like a normal period but I was told it could be lighter... Every woman and experience is different but if you smell anything abnormal, get an abnormal discharge or extreme pain then go straight to the doctor...
DF and I DTD 1 - just once - 2 weeks after the D&C, 2 weeks later I had a +HPT.
Apparently you will ovulate like normal and get your next AF around 6 weeks after the D&C...
My OB said it was up to us as to when we TTC again. We were going to wait for at least 1 period and then reassess but as fate would have it, I fell pregnant! DD is perfect and I will never regret her timing...
I will warn you - apparently you are a lot more fertile the cycle following a D&C! (As we discovered when talking to our OB when I was 6 weeks UTD with DD... I guess that's why it only took once!)
So I'd say it is up to you - what you think is right for you and your family... What is comfortable for you. You may find TTC again straight away is what is right or you may feel it better to take some time before TTC again - there isn't a right answer... We all grieve differently and lead our lives the way we need to...
I hope this helps... You can PM me if you want to talk, ask any questions or just cry on a shoulder.. Big hugs...
We conceived DD2 2 weeks after my d and c. My doctor felt that it was too early but I carried her successfully. Although the first few weeks of my pregnancy were really very crampy and I ended up having a retained placenta, which I believe was a result of having a raw uterus and a placenta that stuck too well. I would ttc when you feel ready hun. Take care and look after yourself
CF. After my d&c the bleeding was light for that day but it did increase as the days went by and then eased/stopped for a day and back in full force again for a bit longer.I think I bled for 2 weeks post op so I guess we are all different in that regard and I had a lot of cramping with mine too. As for ttc I say if you are ready to try again then go for it. If you are worried at all about anything please head straight to the dr or emergency at your hospital
When i had my d&c i was nine weeks, i didnt have hardly any bleeding at all...a few spots and that was it. You cant have sex or were tampons for at least two weeks due to infection..........I think i might have o'd 15 days later and got my period 28 days later. It wasnt real heavy or anything. We decided to not wait for AF, because we thought if my body was ready to have another pregnancy i would get pregnant and it was my way to try and heal. There is advise for both sides on the internet, but it can be a little confusing. Some say wait a month, some say 3 months some say there is no reason medically why you cant try straight away, but then there is also emotionally. I would probably search the internet and find what you're most comfortable with.
Everyone is different and i think it depends on you're pregnancy..how far you were, how many hormones you had, how you;re dr did the procedure, what you're cycle was normally like. It can take a little bit for you're cycles to return back to normal for some people..some are lucky and go back to normal straight away, others have no period for ages..mine have been a bit dodgy on the 2nd and 3rd cycle..one was 5 days late the other 8 days early...this one i am hoping i o'd and i used opk tests
Its probably best to rest up and try you're hardest to relax and heal as it defiantly helps and will help with gettting you're body back to normal...i didnt grieve properly and went full steam ahead with ttc and now it seems to be coming back to bite me..so i am trying to grieve and let go of my baby so i can move forward
I think I was told no sex for two weeks as well. My pain wasn't very bad at all, on day 3 I took one Nurofen because I was feeling very sooky.
I didn't have very much bleeding, probably only about a tablespoonful over that whole two weeks.
My next AF came exactly 28 days later, and was very heavy and messy (like getting up to change pads in the middle of the night messy)
We had to wait 6 months before trying again, so I'm no help in that regard. But I do know that my cycle was more regular and normal than it had ever been before - the procedure had been like a reset button for my whole system.
Oh CF, I've been offline for a while.
I'm so sorry hun.
After my D&C the bleeding was just like AF for me. Got AF bang on 28days later afterwards.
I had a very old Ob, who told me the only reason to wait to TTC was for my own mental health, because the research about waiting is inconclusive, but we did wait to have one cycle just for dates. I had little to no pain with mine, but I know others that have suffered awfully, so if you feel you are in pain, take something before it gets worse and you can't manage.
Hi hun, I am really sorry to hear about your loss. I had a loss around the same gestation and you and also had a D&C. I was suprised that I didn't bleed as much as I thought I would. However, I did get a bad bleed one week later and needed some medication to help empty my uterus. I had some cramping but not too bad. Once my HCG levles went back to 0 - about 2 weeks later I got AF .
I just wanted to give you a and wish you all the very best your journey.. Rach xx
we recently had a loss at eleven weeks and I have a complicated normal miscarriage which resulted in a d&c.
My operation was on October 7. I bled for two weeks with cramping on and off ,
I haven't had a period yet but I was testing for ovulation and I thinking am ovulating now. Or soon.... But we will see what happens. Otherwise hopefully af will come some can get back to ttc. They told us to wait one cycle and not have sex for two weeks post op..... Hope that helps.....
Don't rush into anything, do what you really feel is best for you.
sorry for what you have gone through
After my d&c in march I only had the lightest of bleeding for two weeks, it was like only there when I wipe type of thing. I rang the hospital and said that it was because the Dr that did the surgery most probably did a great job at getting everything (not that, that was a nice way to put it, but I understood).
