I have about 30 but she is not in them overnight. I just find that a couple of wet days in a row and my stash gets very low.
I usually do a wash everyday and is great during summer they dry fast and have no problems with running out but like I said a few wet days and I run out.
yep - 20-30 to start off with, but I used flats and prefolds to begin with and used about 4-5 covers until she fit into small and mediums. I did get some onesize fits all, but my chubby bubby needed side snapping sized nappies and only fits into the OSFA now. There are a number of websites that have both new and used for sale to make it a bit more cost effective. Some also have layby to make it easier leading up to bubs birth.
In the winter they can take up to 36 hrs to dry but on a hot summers day they would be dry in about 3-4hrs. Handwashing may be a bit time consuming, but if you do two washes a day, putting in clothes and nappies, that would probably mean you would use less.
My heater is a reverse cycle airconditioner, and during winter i have a clothes horse in front of it constantly. Nappies would dry within 24 hours.
If you want only a small stash of nappies, look at pockets or other types where the boosters snap in and come apart to dry quicker.
I had a few newborn fitted nappies (cos they are cute!) but also used flats and prefolds. i don't have a huge stash, but have enough to get by washing once a day or every second day. i will count them later.
20-30 is a good number. I usually only use half of them until it rains then get to the bottom. Prefolds are cheaper, easy to wash and dry and are simpler to use on newborns. A great way to start.
I got 13 pocket nappies with DD1 and did combination MCN and disposible. DD2 I got prefolds and covers to go with my pockets and now I prefer them (drying time is quicker) all up about 20-30
