Any thoughts on what to do next?

My 18month old has started to tell me alot of the time when she's done a poo. She also says "poo" when there's just a wee sometimes. I'm not sure what I can do to help her learn to put her poos and wees in the toilet at this age as DD#1 toilet trained after she turned 3 so the communication was easier and she understood better.

So, as we are coming into summer, I was wondering if anyone has any advice/tips on how I might be able to encourage but not push my little one to possibly toilet train in the next few months?

I'm not completely fussed about it all as in, I don't want to drag her through the TT journey, I want her to lead me, if that makes sense? But I don't want to miss an opening if she appears to be on the way.

Hi Charly, I'll look forward to reading the responses too. My DS is 19 months, and will tell me when he's done a poo. But also tells me he's done a poo when he hasn't LOL! I was vaguely wondering about TTing him this summer, but after watching him for a bit, and thinking about it, I've decided he's too young. It would be me dragging him, rather than him leading, and like you, I don't want that. He's only young, so I'm not going to get stressed about it, and I'll leave it til next summer! Unless I read something very wise that makes me change my mind

I reckon as much nappy free time in the backyard that you can manage and keep a potty out there. Also, if he poos at the samish times each day, maybe watch for the signs (you know, The Face they make) and encourage him to the toilet at that time (if he's interested). My DD1 was much older (>2) when we did the TTing thing ans it was an easy process because she was totally ready for it.

I was going to suggest what Marydean said about the backyard.
Darcy started doing that about the same time - but it was always after she had done whatever, she just couldn't manage to know before so i left it. Eventually she just didn't want to wear a nappy or undies so we left her at home and she got more confident.
It really only took 2 days after she'd figured it out. That was about 10 weeks ago and we've had maybe 6 accidents since then.
