Reward Chart for 2.5yr old .... Ideas on how to make one !!!

Hi all,

Well today is a MASSIVE day .... as 2.5year old DD has finally used the toilet not only to do a wee but also a poo ... i don't know whether i should feel proud as i feel like the last several months have taken for ever to get to this moment so i guess i feel more relieved that WE have gotten over the 1st hurdle

We originally paid a fortune for a potty that had all these bells & whistles on the recommendation of a friend who said it worked for their DD ... which turned out it didn't ... and then she suggested a soft training toilet seat & ladder or step ... Well, yesterday DP & i took DD to the shops to pick her own toilet seat & steps... & YES that's what WORKED today ... YIPPY

My question is i'd rather get in with the idea while it's early ... What suggestions do you have in regards to making a REWARD CHART ??

Was wondering how to make one & How to EXPLAIN HOW IT WORKS TO DD (What do i say to her ??) !!!!

DO THEY REALLY WORK ?????

Sounds a bit dumb but i have never seen a Rewards Chart and am still interested in any ideas in making one ... Hope to hear of more replies lovely BB members

When toilet training my now 5 year old dd we tried a reward chart without success so we started a gift bag system. We had a choc frog for poo's and wrapped gifts for wee's. The gifts were really simple from chep as chips and $2 shop. some examples were a packet of croyns $1 divided into 5 presents with a peice of computer paper so she could do a drawing so it was only 20 cents a gift another gift was a rubber ball 3 for $1 it worked a treat and wasn't expensive. As she got more confident we only did the choc frogs for poo's then slowly fazed this out aswell. I no this was bribery in a way but it was a last resort.

I'm also trying the rewards chart with Jayden, it works sometimes then sometimes it doesn't. He loves the idea of stickers so that is usually his reward (for behaviour mainly) and once he has 10 stickers he gets a present next time we go shopping. The present is never anymore than $5. Like Michelle, we are going to get a heap of cheap things, crayons, matchbox cars, stickers etc and have a rewards bag/box that he can pick 1 present out of rather than waiting until we go shopping.

As far as expaining it, just tell her what it is. I told Jayden that everytime he goes to the toilet we are going to put a sticker on the chart, I let him chose the sticker and put it on so he is involved. The only time it doesn't work is when we are on our way out and don't have time or at someones house where we don't have the chart. Fisher Price have a Potty Training book, one for girls and one for boys. Its a story book about going to the toilet and at the back is a pull out chart with stickers. I'll PM you with a website that has heaps of charts (rewards/potty training/brushing teeth etc) plus it has heaps of tips.

Thats great Miss C went to the toilet! They all learn in their own time, Jayden is great 1 day then terrible the next. As soon as I put jocks on him he thinks its a nappy and wets them
