Best way to start TT

Ladies I need your advice....

What kind of seat do you have that your toddler TTed with? Do you have any recommendations for me?

DH bought one of those ladder ones with the seat that sits over the usual toilet seat. For the first time I put DD on it and I think the height thing, plus the fact it doesn't feel very stable may have worried her - hence it was an unsuccessful attempt. For your info DD hasn't showed any interest in TT yet, but I'm trying to get her used to it.
Is a potty a better option? Or is there an Apple iPhone application I can download (iPood ) that I could download to train DD instead...(ok ok, last one was my mere attempt at humour!).

lol.. ipood, thats a crack up! Although Im far from that stage, would be interesting to know. I remember watching a dr phil episode a while back where he got the kids to toilet train a doll by showing them how its done, and that seemed pretty successful.

We have a little potty on the floor in a highly inappropriate place (the lounge) but that's where she wants it and if we put it anywhere else she puts it straight back.

We started by letting her run around naked and trying to catch her when she needed to go (you can tell, she gets agitated and clutches at her crotch) and sticking her on the potty but she initially hated the potty and refused to use it, she'd scream and scream and climb on her change table instead. Persisted with this for a while but she was getting so upset we didn't push her much.

And then one day she just decided the potty was the place to wee and that was it ... took a bit longer before she decided to poop in there though. Eww, carpet mess ..

Next step is convincing her to use the seat insert on the big toilet, with the stool. She does sometimes, but not often. But she likes following us in there, lifting the lid for us, telling us when to stop weeing ("is ENOUGH wee! Stop weeing!"), giving us the toilet paper after and insisting we wash our hands. Like a small toilet butler, really.

Only advice i can give is to wait until they are ready. They will TT soooooo much faster and with so much less stress! I tried TT DS when he was 2.5 but he just didnt get it so i waited. The week after he turned 3 he said to me he wanted to use the toilet, so i let him and voilaaa... 2 days home in undies and hes been TT ever since. I know alot of people stress that other kids are TT and their kids has to be TT first.. but i dont get the rush.. nor why they put themselves through such stress when theyre still TT 6 months later.
As for toilet vs potty. We had both. When i first attempted to TT DS he used the potty and would just sit on it for hours waiting to wee.. nothing happened. When he asked to go to the toilet later on, he went straight on the big toilet. Has been ever since.

We started because DD showed signs and wanted to use a friends potty

We bought the $8.00 basic pottys from T, I just got another the other day so we have one upstairs and downstairs now we just had it in the bathroom and she sits on it morning and night and during the day if she asks, we rememebr or we are at home, when she wakes from her mid day nap she goes on as well.

We found the following things have helped, sitting on the toilet at the same time, talking to her about it. Giving DD books and toys to play with that she only has at potty time, if she does a wee or Poo we congratulations her, and say what she has done. She now asks for the potty, even in the middle of the night so it's always fun sitting up in the middle of the night while she goes, and it can take a while sometimes she won't poo in a nappy, although she did when she was sick a few days ago.

So I guess get a cheapy one for on the floor, and she might start to emulate you, but if not give it a few more months, I was really surprised when DD started, it was of her own accord, so Missy might not be quite ready yet.
