My nephews are 9, 7 and 6 and are still not completely TT. Well, the older one supposedly is but still has accidents during the night. The younger ones are find during the day but not at all at night.
I really can't see how this can be normal. TBH I have serious issues with my BIL's parenting techniques and am concerned that the kids have emotional issues that are contributing to the bed wetting.
My MIL says that its a hereditary thing but I'm not convinced.
Does anyone know anything about what is normal (accepting that there is a huge range of "normal")? I'm genuinely worried that there are bigger issues here than just wet beds.
Wet beds can be a hereditary thing. I was a bedwetter till I was 10 (not every night though) and both my older boys are too at 7 & 5.
DH wasn't and he gets frustrated at them while I'm inclined to not get worked up about it, probably because I remember what it was like.
TBH I think I was such a deep sleeper that I didn't wake up if I had to go and I can see my boys have a similar issue.
When you are saying it can't be normal, what do you have as a yardstick to compare them to?
Not being argumentative here but I think you'll find that it's quite common, but people just don't talk about it. I only found out recently that my neighbours kids both wet the bed and and they are aged 9 and 7.
Its more like I'm saying "it can't be normal can it???" - more a question than a statement Raven.
I'm not being judgmental and if it is "normal", then that's fine. Its just as I say, I have serious concerns about my nephews emotional/mental wellbeing given the way their father is with them. I'd hate to think the poor little things are bedwetting when they're "so old" because they're being monstered by their father and have self esteem issues. Hence the question to ask who else out there has heard/deals with this problem.
My oldest wets his bed after seeing his Dad. It can be an anxiety issue, as well as hereditary. I was told that, from the age of 3, 50% of children will become dry overnight each year. So by 4, it's 50%, by 5 it's 75%, by 6 it's 87.5%, by 7 it's 93%, by 8 it's 97%, etc.
Here in Melbourne I was told that the RCH will only see children at age 7 for overnight bedwetting problems. The usual treatment is a nasal spray.
