Flannel flats - soaker pads as well

Howdy, do any of you ladies who use flannel flats always use microfibre or hemp soaker pads as well, or do you just use the folded nappy with a microfleece liner? I am using a combo of 4 difference MCNs (trying to decide my fave - I think the bumgenius is winning ) but like using flannet flats as well cause they dry so quickly. I will especially use flannel flats for my newborn. So I am not sure whether to rush out and buy a heap of soaker pas as well??

I haven't but I'm sure that it would work well and not be as bulky as using terry squares.
