Am I doing the wrong thing?

DD will be 3 next week and she still wears nappies.

DH & I both work full-time and find it hard to have the time to dedicate ourselves to toilet training her. I did try between Christmas & New Year but I just didn't have the patience for it.

She sometimes asks to go to the toilet, but it's usually only AFTER she's already done it in her nappy, or if she actually needs to go, she asks to go to the toilet, but doesn't actually do anything on the toilet, gets scared, asks for a nappy or pull-up on again and then does what she needs to do.

I feel like I'm doing the wrong thing by not already having her toilet trained, especially because all of my friends who have kids who are younger than her are already toilet trained...not sure if that's just because they have older siblings or not?

DD is an only child, would that also make her take longer to be ready?

I'm still having problems with DD3, people say to me "she's still in nappies". She will sit on the toilet but with her nappy on, she's scared to have it off. It will happen, when they are ready. Good luck.

    Regards,

we just started off with a potty in the bathroom and DD would sit on it when we were going to the toilet then she would just go when she wanted.

I am also a believer of them doing it in their own time. She gets the concept of it, so she is nearly there, but it can take, what seems forever for them to get there. Especially when their peers are doing it, or you have people telling you she should be trained by now..

But I also know how frustrating it is to be questioned on it all the time.

Hang in there, it will happen!

My DS2 still has issues with the toilet and we have school next year.
You just need to keep plodding along and ignore what other people say.
I have a friend who has DD is 3.5yrs old and still in nappies and shows no sign of going any further. Her DD also has older siblings, her Mum just goes with the flow, she will be ready when she is ready. Her DD1 was 3.5yrs old also when TT night and day within just days.
Stick it out, she will get there when she is ready.
You could try the pottytraining website or your own reward chart. Another idea is surprise box, so when she goes on the toilet she gets to pick something from the surprise box (fill it with nick nacks from the $2 shop).
