Hi all;
So DD has been nappy free at home now for a couple of weeks, she is really good at using her potty, and goes pretty much without prompting from us anymore.
Up until now we have put her in a pull-up when we go out to get shopping, and when we come home take it off immediately.
But now I want to step it up a bit and go out without a nappy. But Im not too sure how. Whats the best way to go about this? She doesnt tell us that she has to go, instead she lets us know after shes gone. "Look mummy I did a wee/poo"
What did you do?
I know to start it with small trips, carry a spare change of clothes etc; but I just want to get it right. She is pretty sensitive about it and one mistake puts us back so many steps!
We started going out and about without a nappy as soon as Jack was consistently dry at home. I have a folded padded seat (from BIG W) to use at public toilets as I hate the thought of him sitting on the toilet seat. I'm lucky because he will usually tell me when he needs to go, but if he is playing/distracted I just ask him every 15 minutes or so.
Maybe the first few times she actually uses the toilet away from home have a small suprise handy.
Remember to put a towel or something on her car seat.
Have a change of clothes handy.
Try not to confuse her by undies sometimes/pull ups sometimes, once you have made the decision stick to it.
Lots and lots of praise!!!
What I did was ask them all the time 'do you need to go to the loo?' because often they may not think they need to go until you ask them kwim? And as soon as I was within coo-ee of a toilet I would take them to see if they could at least try to do one. And definitely loads of spare clothes as well. Maz sells little mats that you can have in the car as well JIC they have an accident while you're driving.
We have to go out thrusday week for the enitre day, possible night too. Well if we come back on the thurday then we wont get back here til late at night anyhow. That is 8 days away, Im thinking that maybe I should stick with the pull ups for that, or do you think that is long enough to get her used to going out without a pull up/nappy?
I would just go with it, once DD was dry for the most part during the day i didnt worry about nappies if we go out. I take constantly ask her while we are out and if i know she hasnt been in awhile i just day well mummies going to the toilet and so can you and generally she will do something while we are in there if she hasnt been before that. We still have accidents but its mostly if she is out playing with other kids and theres no toilet anywhere. So far being down the street and travelling she has been dry.
If the first day doesnt work out perhaps put the pull ups back on until you are back home?
