I think I am a bit wary of lavender but I don't know why! Was there some kind of article about it a while back or something??
I think the article you are thinking of is a report that lavender can cause a serge of one of the female hormones in boys and some boys apparently produce breasts. I don't know if it's been proven to be scientific fact or not though.

You could try tea-tree oil if you are worried about lavender.
