I'm using it (we're on day 2) and my little boy doesn't seem to be getting it. He's now ignoring me when I ask if his undies are dry etc, even though he gets a reward for having dry undies, and demoralisingly, I turned my back on him for a second, and in that time he had a wee.
The other times I have caught him weeing, i take him off to the potty straight away, mid-wee, which is fine, but he doesn't seem to get that he needs to take himself there too. Has anyone had these kinds of problems? can anyone offer any ideas? Am I being too impatient?
How old is your son?
I know of people who haven't had much success until day 3. By day 3 they normally get it. My DS was a bit older than the norm, so understood a little more. Even know of someone who had their child nearly get it, but still having accidents on day 3, to being totally dry day 4.
DS still has the occasional night where he will wet the bed, and I totally expect that. I expected him to not really get it for at least a week... but we were lucky.
He also has #2's totally under control within 2 weeks of starting.
This is going FANTASTIC for us. 3 days and she is totally day time trained, she woke up this morning and yelled "DO DO's" (meaning, I need to go to the toilet) I was half asleep in bed and raced her out to the toilet where she did a pee, and was dry all night. WOOT!!! It works, she is only 18 months.
I'm going to start this between Christmas & New Year. The real test will be a few weeks after when we are driving from Adelaide to Melbourne and back. 2 of my friends have tried it for their kids (one girl and one boy) and are about to do it for their second children (both boys) and they swear by it.
I am just a little worried about accidents considering we're renting and the house is fully carpeted.
Lewis' Mummy - DS used to wake with a totally saturated nappy every single morning. It was so full it was falling off him. It really only took a night or 2 before he worked out when to wake up, and he's been quite good. He still has the occasional night time accident, but they are few and far between. I expect them to continue for a while yet... I wouldn't expect it to just stop one night.
Good luck with it! I hope your TT journey goes well.
I'd advise against using rewards - a lot of kids realise that the reward is temporary and their comfort zone needn't be. Talk more about it and the benefits of it with Lewis, avoiding terms that may induce shame and embarrassment
