Hi ladies i'm new to this MCN business and am wondering how many i should buy in preparation for bubs arrival? What brands are your favourite and just generally throw some info at me.
Also for a breastfed babe how many wets nappies should i expect?

I'd be wanting about 24 in my stash. I have always used disposable for the first few weeks (till things settle down). Our stash includes: cuddlebots (with a homemade hemp insert), bambooty and bonnibuns. Hope that gives you something to google! Definately do cloth - saves soooo much money!
A breastfed baby should produce about 6-8 heavy wet/dirty nappies in 24 hours. So 24 is a good number to start with as it gives you one set to use, one set to be washing and one set to be drying, ITMS? My sister started with 12 and she struggled big time until she bought some more - she was constantly washing drying washing drying washing drying nappies.
I've got about 30 and I wash every two days.
As for what types, well there's thousands to choose from!
There's a few different styles you can look at - fitteds or terry flats, all-in-ones or nappy+cover, pocket or snap.
The fancy MCNs are fitted nappies, as opposed to pre-folds or terry flats, which are the basic terry towelling flat nappies that you have to fold yourself. Good as a cheaper alternative to the fitted MCNs.
Then there are AIO or nappy+cover. AIOs are where the entire nappy is one piece (boosters excluded), whereas the other option is a nappy plus a waterproof cover that goes over the top. Nappy + cover option is a little bit cheaper but its a two-step change (nappy then cover) whereas the AIO is simple, just one piece.
Confused yet?
Good brands: Tots Bots, Designer Bums, Itti Bitti, Bum Genius... they're my faves.
ETA: Try checking out the website for cotton bottom... they are who I buy my nappies through, they stock heaps of brands and the website has a tonne of info on it. You can also ring the shop (in Melbourne) and ask questions if you have any!
I'm going the AIO's, don't want to be folding terry flats like the old days and i like the idea of the multi fitted ones (from newborn to toddler yrs) are they all that there cracked up to be? I've just bought 6 BBH ones so hoping i like them and i might try some of the other brands that way i get to try a few of each. What are the Cushi Tushi's like?
Who would have thought i'd be getting excited about changing nappies![]()
Baby beehinds are the bomb in the house!
really didnt like CT's DD2 would only last about an hour and a half in them, whereas the BBH she'd last about 6
good luck, clothing is great fun
Ooooh Skybie now you got me excited can't wait for my shipment from BBH to turn up now
They had a special on and i got 4 nappy's @ $18.00 each - bargain.
I use either Eco store or planet ark aware. I just received an order of rockin green today so I'll see how that goes. I also use dettol sanitising rinse too. Oh and you definitely can't use fabric softener! (just in case you didn't know)

i just just our normal clothes washing detergent - what ever is on special at Coles! (but about 1/3 the normal amount). You don't need special detergent for cloth - just don't use fabric softener!
I've been using Biozet with softner included in it which i really like but i will change over to Planet ark for the nappies. The only reason i asked was because the CT'S tell you to use there's or Planet Ark i think was another one.
Munchkin Mumma yes let me know how the green rock goes they sent me a sample yesterday![]()

The only disappointing thing about it is that Itti Bitti are waiting for them shipment in October so won't see my new nappies till at least the 20th of next month
With the flushable liners which ones are better and which do you buy for cost saving - in the end they only go down the loo.
