Sick of Bribing!!!

My son is 2 and 10 months, and is definately ready to be trained, he is just driving me up the wall!!

Today is day number 4 of toilet training and I must say overall he is going really well, I am just SOOO SICK OF BRIBING HIM!!

Seriously, it is the only way I can get him to the toilet. He has used the toilet heaps of times so I know that he is more than capable and very ready, I just dont know what the issue is, and why it is so hard just to get him on there! Is it just the terrible two's rearing its head as well? When I do eventually get my son on the toilet, he always does something (very rarely a number 2 but always a number 1), its just that every time I try to get him on there, it takes me like 15 minutes of pleading and bribing to get him there.

My son is not usually a naughty or disobedient boy, not at all really but when it comed to the toilet, he will yell "No! In 1 minute! Soon! Later! NOOoooooo!!!' And it literally takes me forever to get him there. I have tried bribes as well, worked to start with, now doesnt want a bar!!

Just wondered if anyone has had this and how long does it last? I just long for the day when he will run to me and say"Mummy, I need a wee!" *dream*

My son is nearly 2 and a half. He is also capable of going more often but at this stage he only goes when he is undressed. He usually demands to go after his shower before I dress him.... but it's only ever a wee. He has only done poos about 3 or 4 times and that was because I could kinda tell he needed to... it was when he'd woken up with an only wet nappy and had breakie and I asked him to sit on the potty. He usually does a poo in his nappy just after getting out of bed. if I could be bothered i'd probably try to catch that but what with a 5yo demanding breakfast and a DH needing his cup of tea I'm too busy at about 7am to sit with him at the potty. Aaanyhow I never bribe. I just clap and carry on when he DOES use the potty.... reinforce the good and all that. I tried a more focussed approach with the other two children and it sometimes worked against us. This time around i'm just going to let it happen... try to catch the afternoon poos more reliably. But if they don't want to sit on it they don't want to sit I guess. You could try reading a book... but in my experience they still fuss about... wanting to get up and all. I haven't 'made' my 3rd child sit on the potty and he is the one who demands to use it the most frequently... i guess I have to think that maybe I was being too firm with my first two children. ... although I bought a new potty for this child and I suspect it's much more comfortable. It's a BabyBjorn.

ETA: One thing that produced a poo on the potty was to say to him in a joking way: can you make a fart?!!! I turned it into a game... making farting sounds with my mouth etc LOL He thought it was hilarous... and started to see if he could fart... and then viola! A number 2 in the potty!!! Received to a hearty cheer and round of applause!!!

ETA: I'm also sometimes using Imsey Vimsy training pants. They feel wet but save the floors. Quite useful. Disposable nappies do tend to slow down the TT process... child wets pants still feels dry... why would they bother suffering the inconvenience of going to the potty?
