Question Baby wipes.... which one's to buy?

I've been looking at Baby Wipes.... I'm not sure about them..... can they sting the babies skin?? Or do you get non-alcoholic one's? I will probably try not to use them very much and just wipe bub with a wet tissue.

What does everyone use for wipes? And what are the best/safest one's to buy? And what one's to avoid??? I have looked at the cheap one's like at Aldi etc but are they 'cheap' for a reason? ie cheap and nasty??

Thanks, from someone who has nooooo idea about wipes!

At home I use washers with warm water. When she was little I used cotton wool balls with warm water.
BUT having said that, when you're out or when you have a ripper of a poo - baby wipes do a great job.
I don't like J&J because they give me dermatitis. Huggies are great but too expensive. Aldi wipes are FANTASTIC. i also have curash ones in the car.
Darcy's pretty vocal and she's never said they sting - she just hates them when they're cold lol. But when you have a dose of the runs, baby wipes are far superior to toilet paper IMO (sorry TMI - but you have to test these things out lol)

Sometimes the cheaper ones might be thinner, or tear easy.
I usually use Huggies, non scented - in the green. Most wipes these days are non alcoholic. I've used Black & Gold ones too & they are pretty good. Home Brand/No Frills are OK too.
I do find Huggies best as they aren't too wet (some are dripping) they are nice & thick, & there are no perfumes in them.
There are alot of others too though.
I think these days they are all really good. The Wet Ones that come in a cylender tub thing are really only good for faces though.
You could just use a face washer with water or sorbelene too, but I find washers are a bit rough.
Good luck. Trial & error is probably the best way to go.

At home I use cotton wool balls with warm water - unless its a gigantic poo! Definately much kinder on babies skin, and HEAPS cheaper!
I generally only use wipes when we go out. I prefer the J&J ones - the fragrance free ones, I find that the huggies ones tear too easily! But I guess just have a go and see what you like.

    thanks ladies!

I suppose to get set up, I'll buy a big bag of cotton wool balls & also a few small travel packs of wipes to take in the bag when we're out.... at home i'll use the cotton wool balls like you said Kim (with warm water) and then when we're out and about, just easier to use some wipes i guess.
thanks i'll keep the Aldi and Huggies one's in mind when it's time to buy. I'm pretty organised so probably soon i will buy some!! hehe i just love this baby shopping!!

I use J&J - scented. Have since day 1 with DD#1 whom was born in 2003 - never had a problem with them. Used to them, love them. Ive tried Huggies, and other brands, but i just dont find they do the job as well as J&J do....

We started off with cotton balls and water and then when DS went to solids at 6mths and started mega poos started using wipes. I started with name brands but found some of the more expensive ones tore easily. Tried Aldi ones and loved them. I use unscented and they are sturdy and so cheap compared with the name brands. My DS has sensitive skin and hasn't reacted to them. I would highly recommend giving them a try.

I use microfleece wipes for poo - they can be used dry and the poo really sticks to them. Because we use cloth, it's no dramas taking some cloth wipes too when we're out. Microfleece (little additions) can be bought quite cheaply from Spotlight and I cut to a size that also can be used for liners as well. I use terry cloths to dry his bum with.

I also use the homebrand cotton make up remover pads as wet wipes - I prefer them to cotton balls as they are thin, have a bigger surface area, and do not leave threads of cotton wool everywhere. They are also (unlike name brand like Swisspers) 100% cotton. I have a wipes case that came with my nappy bag, and just fill it with pads then pour water over the top - that stays in my nappy bag and I have instant wipes! They are about 1.50 for a pack of 80, so much cheaper than wipes (but not as cheap as cotton balls or cloth wipes!).

Water is fine (actually better than most of the stuff used in wipes) but chamomile tea also makes a great wipes solution for nappy rash (very soothing). I keep a small bottle in the fridge for when needed, it's lovely cold (if your bub is used to cold water, mine is, but then we are in a hot climate. He loves the cold tea on a wipe).

Oooh, thanks for the makeup remover tip, Suze.
I use all sorts, but the only ones Natty has complained about (and she did have a rash but I'd run out of cloth wipes) was the coles Savings brand. Don't know what it was about them, but it seemed to hurt her bottom. (But only when the skin was already a bit rashed.)

we like to use huggies as like the others have said, they aren't too wet, and get the job done using less. the curash ones i have found to be really awful. they are soaking wet and give DD a bit of irritation. the aldi ones are pretty good.
J&J are ok, but a bit on the wet side and i tend to use more each change than the huggies.

in the early days we used warm water and washers. as i was too nervous to use anything harsh on her skin. then as she got older and started eating solids we moved to wipes.

    HTH!

I swear by cloth wipes. I just wish I'd discovered them earlier. They are SO much better than the disposable wipes - easier to use, and nicer on the skin. Mine are BBH brand but you can get so many different ones.

After using almost every known brand, and Harrison having a reaction to most of them... the ones I have found best have been "Curash" and "Angel Baby" (only the bulk pack).
Unfortunately for me, the Angel Baby wipes are only found in Big W (the only place I have seen them anyway), and I rarely go to Big W these days.

We used fleece wipes and they were great. For sticky poos sorbalene cream seemed to do the trick. Cotton balls with warm water also works well.

For disposable wipes I use Nature Babychild ones - the others tend to irritate DD.

I'll put my 2 cents in too
At home I use the huggies mainly cos they pop up! Soooo much easier!
In the nappy bag I have the aldi wipes which are great, they are cheap and so tough, just the right amount of wetness too!

I like Curash wipes the best. I personally find Huggies to be a little too thick and can't scope up the poop as easily! I have tried the "cheapies" and never again as I find most are too small or give a bad reaction. Athough as you can clearly see every mum has her fav ones and its just a matter of trying them out and seeing what suits you and bub.

We use coth wipes here too! I just bought a 2 X 12 packs of cheap Big W brand baby "face washers", (they'd be useless as face washers). But, you could make your own or buy them from various MCN sites.

We use foamy wipes wash from Bubblebubs, so DS's bottom is the best smelling around. It's got no nasty chemicals unlike the majority of disposable wipes. We just throw them in the nappy bucket after each use and wash them with the nappies.

We do use the Nature Care wipes for when we're out and about or if DS has a poo in his nappy (vary rarely as we've do elimination communication), as they're chlorine free (not bleached), but I've used them to take my make-up off and I have to say, they do tend to sting just a little on my face (I have sensitive skin), but I've found that with most disposable baby wipes.

    Hope that helps!!!
