really just reading their signs when they are ready.
We are coming out the other end of TT with DS... it started nearly a year ago! argh. but we just took it very slow and I have really found it can go great for awhile and then he'lll just regress or fight it.
But lately, as his comprehension and communication has improved, it's been easier. He still has accidents but is mostly pretty good. i do need to remind him a fair bit tho. if he's playing he'll sometime forget, although this week it seems to have hit home a bit more that you go when you need to and not hang on. he's more aware.
I've also found that just perservering with undies only during the day, no matter how many accidents has helped. I think with a nappy or training pants they can't feel the consequences of an accident. We also say repeatedly, "when we wear undies our poos and pees go in the toilet, not our undies". He was also getting a bit of bum burn from some nasty poos, so now understands that if you do a poo in your undies, you'll get a sore bum! And even tells me now, "oh i don't want a sore bum mummy, do poos in the toilet". lol
when he first started on the potty we did reward stickers and that worked well.
oh, and I've found it much better to put the potty in the toilet or bathroom rather than out in the living area, although it was much better at first as when they need to go, there isn't a lot of time to remove pants/shorts etc Highly recommend going nappy/pant free at home... but have a mop handy! lol
