My lil boy has just recently re-decided he likes his potty lol!! Not to sit on though, to stand and oint at- but his aim is getting MUCH better lately, he is actually getting it in the little bowl!! So maybe the outside wee-ing has paid off!!

He has never been scared of it- though he is scared of the actualy toilet (we have spet a fortune on toilet accessories, we have a potty and a seat that goes over the toilet with steps, and another soft cushiony seat for on the toilet)

Honestly, i have found the easiest thing for my little boy- which i think you would probably find most suitable for you- is to let him wee outside. For me it was pure laziness, i didnt want to clean up wee. He started with the potty inside- but would sit on it, he would point at it and wee would go right up the wall and all around the potty but never in it... so i got a bit sick of cleaning wee, and outside wee-ing began.. for you i think that would be easiest for you and Sam coz there is no lifting, no cleaning and no stress for you. Shane is now independant and takes himself out side, and as i said we are just transitioning back to the potty- but now he can aim!!! We have started putting the potty outside so he can wee into out there and we jsut hose it out!

Another potty fan here. I guess people are so adamant about them using the toilet because they want the whole process over and done with ASAP. But for us, DD is too little to use the toilet herself, even if she could climb up without falling in, she needs a toilet seat cover or similar. The potty is easy because she can use it independently it is the right size and comfortable for her. We did buy two - one she likes, the other one she wouldn't even sit on. The one she likes is a Fisher Price on shaped like a proper seat, under the seat it has a removable bowl. The one she won't sit on is one of those little all in one cheapo ones. So maybe a different style would suit him better. But good luck BW and welcome

First post!! Hope its ok I join in here.

I'm so glad I found this thread as I have just started TT my 2 year old daughter this past week and its good to see that some of the things she has been doing aren't so strange after all She is another one who likes to go nudies!

I just thought I'd give TT a go as bub #2 is due in 5 weeks so if she got the hang of it then great it was over with before the new bub is here, if not no big deal. She seemed scared at first so I tried a different potty. Ended up getting the fisher price one someone else mentioned that looks like a little toilet and it plays a song when the wee in it! I never thought I'd resort to anything like that, but she loves it!! We've only been using that the last 2 days but she's going pretty well. She had 2 accidents this morning and about 5 wees on the potty which she walked to all by herself without me asking if needed to go!! One of the accidents was when she was running around the room like a looney so I guess she was too distracted to notice, but the trail did lead to the potty with a decent puddle in front of it so I take that as a good sign that she realised she was weeing and tried to get to the potty.

I know its early days and I'm sure we'll have good bad days but I can' help but feel super proud right now Will see how she goes this afternoon after her nap. Will definately be keeping an eye on this thread too.

munchkin_mumma and welcome! Sounds like your DD is going great! I think we might have the same potty - I had to take the batteries out, the music was driving me demented. And it sometimes went off randomly in the middle of the night which was just too weird.
Well we seem to have had some progress here over the weekend - she has started telling me when she wants to go to the toilet! over the weekend we had only one wet pullup and that was really late on saturday evening when she would normally have already been in a nappy for bed. She is doing so well! Still in pullups for going out atm as I tend to badger her if she is wearing knickers and fret too much which just causes tension. But hooray finally feel like we are getting somewhere again.

Thanks Pixie How creepy that your potty was going off randomly!! Ours hasnt done that yet so fingers crossed.

DD has still been going really well. I dont think we've had any puddles since I last posted. YAY!! Only problem is she wont pull her undies down so if I happen to not be in the room at the time she'll just wee right through them. But I guess it's good that she still does it on the potty.

We havent been out the whole week cause I'm too scared to take her out in undies adn dont want to put her in nappies and confuse her! Think I'm gonna have to put her in a nappy though as she doesnt tell me she needs to go and if I ask her she always says no, even if she goes 2 seconds later!! Oh well, it's still early days

Poking my head in here.. I only just realised its here.
I've got a three year old. She uses the toilet fine during the day etc.
I just don't know how to train her at night? She's abit odd about her room and will not leave it unless we let her out. I've even tried coaxing her out in the mornings, but she won't open the door, or even get out of her bed. And our bedroom is at the other end of the house - I've got a monitor, but I'm afraid of hurting her confidence if I'm too slow to get there.
Also... I'll take her out of the house in knickers within a certain radius and she's fine, but we've never braved the longer trips. I get a bit anxious over how to handle an accident in public.
(I think I have more problems with this toilet training than she does?!)
I'm sorry that I'm bombarding you guys. I've had those two things in my head for aaages and then I saw this thread.. So I would love any tips haha. And again, sorry for the pity-party I've thrown..

Welcome Kamarine, we are all novices here!!! Not sure if we can help- but its always nice to talk about stuff even if we cant :-)

DS (2 and a half) seems to have some how trained himself for night time and nap time- he simply refused a nappy. So during his day sleep (when he has one) he is usually naked, if he were in undies i would suspect we would have an accident, so naked it is. At night he will go to sleep naked (yes he is naked alot) but i will usually put a nappy on him before i go to bed- which he takes off first thing in the morning and goes outside for a wee.

I'm not sure how oyu would go with DD in the morning- maybe out the potty in her bedroom???? THen she can get up and use it without having to leave her room?? On a side note- thats kind of a good thing that she doesnt venture out lol i know alot of people who have the complete opposite problem and their toddlers wake up and wander the house getting uop to mischeif before the parents even know they are awake!! My DS is pretty goood- he wakes up but will come find me where ever i am (musical beds at our place at the moment lol with a 7 month old too i am often in her room or in the spare bed with her, or some mroning by a miracle i am still in my bed!!!)- and he still has his nappy on, but as we make the transition from wee-ing outside to the toilet (which apparently miraculously happens according to me book ) he will be able to get to the loo.

As for venturing out in undies... DS made a few quick trips out a lately, one naked coz we went to a party and hi spilled jiuce all over himself and i didnt have a change of clothes for him, so once the clothes came off, he went the full monty and refused a nappy lol So in the car trip home (about 20 minutes) he was nappy free, i just made sure i asked him if he had to do a wee before we got in the car and he said no he was ok (he had done one at the park a little bit before we left) no accidents!! Then twice he did a quick dash to the local shops, once with me and once with DH with undies and shorts and all was good.. then we went for a swim to the river and he wanted to wear undies, it was going to be a long trip so i was a bit dubious, but he wanted so i put them on and asked if he had to go wee, and told him if while we were driving he had to go to tell us and we will stop, he ended up falling asleep and when i went to take him out of his seat, he was wet, but he wasnt upset or anything, i just said "oh dear, did you do wee's???" and first he said "no" and i said, "hmm , i think you did!! OOppsie!!" and laughed it off, he started laughing and we changed him and he was happy as larry and ran around in his swimmers and did wee's in the bush like he loved to for the rest of the day- but on the trip home we put a nappy on!!

We are still having no luck with poo on the toilet, his aim is getting better for the wee, so i am thinking of trying to encourage him to use the loo for wee's and then he might be happier to do his poo there!!!! Who knows!!!!

We have had some success and some accidents this week, so I'm taking the success' and running with them!

Miss A asked twice to go to the toilet at Childcare this week and both times she did wees !!
But then yesterday she took her nappy off and decided to poo on the lounge room floor so not happy Jan
I guess we have to celebrate the small wins!

We had a little win today. Dd asked to go to the toilet (she had a nappy on) and she actually did a wee!!! Then she insisted on undies and a little while later asked for the loo but didn't do anything but then not long after that she had an accident one step forward, 2 steps back right

Thanks. Sounds like things are going pretty well for you! Even now Munchkin will ask for a nappy. I think it might be because she picks up on our hesitance and insecurities about toilet training her!

We bit the bullet and braved putting her to bed Friday night. We explained to her about leaving the door open for her and everything. Turns out, she was like 'okay thats fine Mum'. And she stayed in there, didn't fret about the door open. And since then she's been nappy free at night with no accidents? It makes me worried that maybe we were what was holding her back in TTing.

So thank you for giving me the courage to try it!

Our next challenge is the longer trips and well... I don't know if this is normal? But she's been fine during the day for ages. But every now and then she gets so engrossed in what she's doing that she just goes where she stands? We've had a few of them since she started wearing knickers to bed.

Smejam - I love it when they ask. It was a real moment of success for me.

ezymay - Forward is still forward. I had accidents after accidents, and then it just seemed to click one day? So I think maybe the accidents still are some what forward?

Just thought I'd start perusing this thread - be gentle lol!

DD is 3 and shows no interest in potty at all. As baby number 3 isn't far away DH was hoping to have her TT before the arrival, and I kept saying 'give her a shot if you want, but she isn't showing any interest so you may end up banging your head against a wall'. After many walls were hit lol - he gave up.

Any hints re - getting that interest / excitement in the potty? We've tried books, pretty girly underpants with characters she likes, sitting with her whilst she is on the potty singing and playing games etc - still, no luck. I don't want to force her as I've read so much that if she aint showing interest don't push the issue....Any advances on that mode of thought?

leesa, have no idea as I'm in the same boat. DS will be turning 3 in May, so in about 3 months and we keep going back and forwards. One day he's super keen to do wee's in the toilet, the next day he wants to wear nappies. I'm starting to wish he would hurry up and just do it because all the other kids in playgroup his age seem to be trained already. It doesn't help that on the days that he's all for it and I'm encouraging him, DH wants to put a nappy back on him if we need to go out as he doesn't want wee in the car or to have an accident in the shops!! :\ I told DH, he has to suck it up otherwise he can change the nappies until DS is 21...haha

Today I went to the library and got some TT books so will see what they suggest.

Kamarine I think it is pretty normal for kids to 'forget' about going to the toilet when they are engrossed in playing, so I wouldn't worry too much if she is usually pretty good with it.
Leesa and Eluned I am not sure exactly how to get some interest going, we didn't have a huge amount of resistance at the beginning (although it was more meh than excitement) we just tried with gentle encouragement. Maybe your DD and DS would respond to things like sticker charts or other rewards? Also I sweetened the deal by putting the potty in front of the TV

We have had an awesome week in the TT department. The other day I was picking DD up from day care and the carer stopped me in the kitchen and said "your daughter was the only one who didn't have an accident today". We had a chat about how she was going and the carer thinks she is doing great. I wasn't sure how much progress she was making as she was having an accident most days since the beginning of the year. The carer said most of the TTing kids had about four accidents a day! Also yesterday the Bear picked her up and told me that he left her eating her dinner, and she called out to him, he found her in the bathroom, pulling her knickers down to sit on the potty where she did a poo. "It looks just like a sausage daddy!"
And then today, the same thing, I left her eating her dinner, and she called out to me, I came in to find she had her pants and knickers round her ankles and had made a significant deposit in the potty
And at daycare this week NOT.ONE.ACCIDENT!

That happened a few times with me. She'd had an accident and her sister found it. Not enough hands somedays.

We use the steps and toilet option. But she's been in the bathroom with us since she could crawl and always knew what it was for, so it suited her.

But like Thepixie said, try a sticker chart maybe? That worked so, so well here.

Thepixie - thanks. I worry about it so much sometimes. I wonder if I missed a cue or if she's regressing. She regressed for a few days after MIL left. It was awful and so frustrating for us. And congrats! on the no accidents this week!!

I'm talking Munchkin out tomorrow.. by bus. In knickers. Only a little bit freaking out.

Hey girls

Guess what? my DD is fully toilet trained (for the day i mean not night yet!)

It happened last sunday, i decided, enough was enough as she wasnt interested in the potty at all.

I then told her i ran out of nappies so she understood. Then she had 2 accidents and on monday 1 accident and since then NO accident!!! YAY even at childcare she was fine.

We've even been to the shops and she tells me when she needs to wee.

So proud of her and it was heapsssss easier than i expected =)

Hello everyone

May i please join?!
Miss B a few months ago woke up and asked to be put in big girl undies so from that day during the day (besides sleep time) she is in undies!
Now going for wee's is going okayish, we still have to remind her, and sometimes she tells us but most of the times when she does its a tad bit too late!

However....

Poo's are our major problem! she has done some but not many at all and she will tend to now go days and days without doing one until she gets tummy pains, and than she will wait until we put her in a pull up and she will do a poo!

What is so different about doing a poo on the toilet as opposed to a wee? why does she seem scared to do one? i really don't understand that!

She is currently using a one of those toilet seats that attach to the toilet with steps and she can get up and down that no problems!

I need to have a little woohoo. DD was sitting on my knee this morning and was pulling at her nappies. I asked her what was wrong and she asked to sit on the toilet and voila.. she did the biggest wee. AND has promptly refused to sit ont eh toilet for the rest of the day
