DD wants undies on all the time now and always asks to go to the toile tbut the prob is she asks when she first starts peeing so by the time we get to the toilet she has finsihed (all over the floor) i have tried randomly putitn her on the toilet hoping to catch a pee but she just looks at me like wat r u doign i dont need to go. she wont sit there if she doesnt need to do one.
How do i get her to know the feelin b4 the pee not during?
When I started TT my DD I would sit her on the potty every 30 minutes. She would get a sticker if she did a wee/poo and then every 5 sticker she would get a treat. At the start I would read her a book to get her to sit on the potty or sing a song. I would sing twinkle twinkle and then sing that whenever we sat on a toilet anywhere so she would know to try. It took about a week but she got it and now takes herself.
My dd used to do that too or tell me afterwards. Eventually she would only do a tiny bit and then tell me and now she tells me before. Whenever there was an accident I would tell her firmly but not angry and wees and poos are to be done in the toilet only and then take her to sit on the toilet. I would sit her on the toilet every hour or so too. I wouldn't take her undies off straight away either just so she got the feel of wet undies and how yucky it feels. It seemed to work because she was tt day and night by 22 months. We were very relaxed about it. I was ready for it to take six months. We didn't use the reward system but I think the sticker idea is a good one we had heaps of accidents until one day something just clicked and she was right. Good luck!
hi there we are TT at the moment full time (ie no nappies at all in the house!).
We are on day 4. DD is only just starting to notice the feeling and tell me.
ALso i try to catch her cues (touching undies, pausing etc).
I have basically been home bound and watching her every single second so i can catch her and take her to the toliet on these cues rather than sitting her on the toliet when she doesnt need to go.
I find if i make her sit and she doesnt need it she gets upset and frustrated and hates TT times!
so i am letting her learn her own body and feelings and praising her for doing so.
It may be a slow process so far but those times (no matter how far and few between right now) that she recognises the wee feeling and tells me are worth it!
like Liviam we used to put DD on the potty every 25-35 minutes - we had a sticker chart also!
We basically stayed home for the first few days too, just so we could concentrate on it. It only took about a week and she started to go and sit on the potty by herself when she needed to go!
We also put the potty in the main living area so it was easily accessible.
Check out thepottytrainer - we found it really helpful! HTH
