    I don't make my own but I do use soap nuts which are natural and pretty cheap although you usually need to buy them online. You can also get fairtrade ones.
    where are u purchasing you soap nuts from? are they good?

    I like them. Although I have heard mixed reports I seem to have converted quite a lot of people so they can't be too bad. LOL. I got mine from Mama Aum but I think Oxfam have fair trade ones which I will try and hunt down next time. They don't have any smell or perfume to them. And seem to be low allergy as DH and a couple of other friends have sensitivities to soap powder but don't to soap nuts.

    WL I have a top loader, but I know others that use it in a front loader too.

    just found this thread. I have made my own powder using bi carb soda, washing soda, soap flakes and borax. You only need about 1 tablespoon per wash of nappies and two per normal clothes.
