Pawpaw cream?

So why are petrochemicals bad? Is it a cloth nappy thing, or a sensitive skin thing? (I don't have a problem with petroleum - but I guess baby skin is more sensitive.) How do I find out if something has a petroleum base, as most of them only list active ingredients? I'm guessing I should stay away from anything labelled 'barrier cream' as if it stops wetness getting to the rash it will stop moisture getting through the nappy.
Went to chemist this arvo and they were hopeless... only Lucas pawpaw, about 6 sorts of zinc cream, and a homeopathic one that didn't list all ingredients. Argh! Might try the e-pharmacy thing, thanks Pandora.
In the meantime I'm using barrier cream with fleece liners. I'm guessing I need to wash the liners separately so the cream doesn't mess up the rest of the wash?

Just bumping this thread cause I was about to buy some of the lucas cream myself for bub's bottom and hadn't even thought if there would be a problem with my bamboo prefolds or MCN. Jess are you finding the pawpaw cream is ok against your fleece liners? do you need to wash them seperately? did you also find some of the other brands online?

chemist warehouse generally stock all the different pawpaw creams, otherwise try your health food shop

Went to a different pharmacy and found the Pure Nutriceuticals (black tube) pawpaw and Aromababy barrier balm. Both of them smell very nice, but don't seem to be doing much for the one remaining spot of rash - it has blistered, poor thing. I've also tried Kittens suggestion of squirting breastmilk on it... but it 's really hard to aim at a small spot on a squirming baby!

just bumping this as DS has very very dry skin around his nappy area and i an starting to use the black tube pawpaw,

? Do i need to use a liner as well or is this ointment safe direct onto my nappies?

Oil/zinc/petroleum based affect the absorbancy as far as I know. They stain too. I have nappies with sudocreme stains, they were cheap ones, so i didn't worry about it.
Use liners if you're not sure about the cream.
