Pollycotton sheets are usually 50/50 so I don't think that they would make very good prefolds.
But if you did want to use them for something put several layers together and they would make nice burp cloths for your shoulder.
how about calico?
I would think Calico would be a bit rough...
If you after somethign cheap, have ahunt around spotlight on the bargin tables.

SHould i look for flannette or cotton? what would you sugggest (unfortnately cant afford amboo or hemp for 30 odd prefolds)
i made a heap with "cotton rich fleece", its a similar fabric to Sherpa sold in spotlight.
