How tight do you pull the elastic when you sew a cover? I pulled the elastic pretty tight and a really bunched up cover came out of it? I was sewing with velour/PUL backing and also have tried a few with Microfleece and one PUL and they all looked the same.. Was using the Wee Wakka pattern.

Also have any of you made fleece playmats? Just wondering what fabric I could put on the back to make them a bit more waterproof? Would love to hear your opinions

Tarkine, the wee weka does come out pretty bunched on the leg elastic, I'm using the same pattern..... But I'm just waiting til Mon now before I sew anymore as I have a package waiting for me at the post office, so I'll then be able to compare the few I've done to the 'professional' ones.....

Polar fleece could be used on the back of your mat, or another option is to get a waterproof mattress protector for the back of your mat...... Polar fleece is water resistant, only water proof when you use 2 layers, but could then make your playmat reversible.....

I pull my elastic as tight as I can...gives for better closure and non leaking issues

put a hidden layer of PUL inbetween layers for your mat ... im working on some atm

Where does everyone get their Minky from?
I've looked at all the nappy supply shops online and they're so expensive

    Hi Cheeky Monkey

It is a tad more pricey that fleece but minky is worth it! I made sure I had my nappy sewing down pat before I used any of the first cuts I bought.
I usually buy mine from wrigglebots but have bought it from other stores. Buying it by the cut is more cost effective and if you get other supplies at the same time the postage is more economical also.
Spotlight had some last winter and will do so again hopefully.

tarkine I usually cut the elastic half the length of the distance between the two elastic points. It depends on how stiff the fabric is that you are sewing it onto. Shorter for PUL and bamboo or longer for fleece.

Maz you are an evil enabler I might get to lincraft tomorrow if DH is alright enough to cope with the boys. I don't feel like taking all of them out. It will cost me more in bribes than what I'll save

    Thank-you Raven

My SL had a tiny bit left over from last winter so I nabbed that. It was reduced to $10 a metre so I was very happy! How much is it usually?

I also went to Lincraft today to get some velour and they didn't have any. I've also called the one near family down south and they didn't have any either. Am I asking for the wrong stuff or are they all just stocked out?

I cant use Hemp on my kid's...i dont know why but they react with it so I just stay with bamboo and tend to only buy it for everything.

Ruf - thanks hon...Ive had alot of planning with them and twiking. I think many forget that these things are made due to a love of sewing..and thats its not about the money but the joy in watching something transforming infront of your eyes...I have had so much fun with them. I just wish I had another baby to sew my nappies for now

I know its not the same Maz, but I know there are a lot of people on here who would love to lend u their bubs bums to sew for
with the the hemp, do the react to it even if its not against their skin? so u cant even use it for boosting?

I know what u mean about the love of sewing too! there's something calming and exciting about seeing a garment come to fruition!
