I heard about the lincraft sale this on the radio morning. Might sneak off tomorrow and leave the lads with DH Can't remember if it's his Sat on though. Would probably negate any savings on wool with all the stuff they end up talking me into buying. I'm a bit of a softie sometimes.

I am about half way through a pair of Shannon's longies from the NC website (Yep - I know River - you directed me there months ago and I am only half way through them - luckily no great rush!) I am using a wool alpaca blend and they are turning out really scrummy. Will have to try the all improved pattern next.
Sam - be careful of the Lincraft sale - I just got back and if DH finds out it will end in tears!
PP - easiest way would be (hoping my maths is correct here) K3 [k2together, yarn over, K3]x9. Basically knitting tow together then putting the yarn over the needle means that you don't drop any stitches (the yarn over recreates the stitch that you just knitted together) and means that there is a series of eyelets to threat a drawstring through. HTH

I went to the Lincraft sale but was a bit underwhelmed! I did get some nice pink merino so I'll make a hat from that. They didn't have any of the patons carnival 100%. They had lots of other patons but they had acrylic in them. There was their own brand wool too but it seemed a bit rough for my likings.
I did get some other wool called Shepherd Colour 4 Me in a pink verigated. They were low on stock so there wasn't enough to do a full set of longies in Calebs size besides in pink or yellow.
PP the eyelet row works by knitting two stitches together (k2tog) then using the yarn to a new stitch between them by taking the yarn over the needle (yo) and then knitting the next two together. The yarn over makes a loose hole that then becomes the eyelets. You knit the next row as normal.

The earlier you start the more relaxed about the knitting you can be. I tend to be quite slow because my hands lock up when I have done it too long or it is too cold
I am not sure about the sizing, not having had a NB in cloth before (I jumped on the band wagon a bit late ) so I reckon your best bet would be to ask the ladies in the cloth nappy discussion, if you can keep up
6 months does go quick, and knitting will pass the time quickly for you hun. Good Luck!
No harm in starting now, Follow the sizing on the patterns & they are bound to fit at some stage.
Im making stuff for my unborn. I am also making tuf for my DD in unisex/boy colours so Mr Doodle will get wear of the also as they will share the same month of birth so season/size wise should be similar.
Im not sure if prefolds & soakers/longies will be your best option. You may find (from what I have heard/read, haven't actually done a NB in cloth yet) that you will want some good fitting covers for your prefolds. Nice snug fits around the legs to help prevent leaks. But jump into the cloth thread for more on that side of MCNing
Get started now tarkine and by the time bub needs some woolies you'll be a pro It's taken me about a year of trying, turfing it away and trying again to get to the stage where I'm happy with what I'm managing to knit!
Not sure how soakers will work with prefolds. I think they are more suited to covers you can "undo" for ease of removal, though I could be wrong as I haven't used them in combination
There are a few soaker patterns that work like a wrap cover so they would the style to go for over prefolds I reckon. I think Little turtle knits have a pattern for one if you google them. But definitely go for a wrap style cover over a prefold otherwise I would imagine you risk getting newborn pooh everywhere when trying to remove a normal style soaker.

What type of wool was used to get that effect?
I actually know diddle about kniting but am thinking I will give it a try. Do you guys think the knittinghelp.com plus a pattern, needles and some wool will be enough for me to figure it out or should I try and find somewhere to get lessons?
Oh, I would looove to knit my own soakers. Trouble is: I can't knit to save my life. I haven't even finished a single scarf yet. I started a couple, though...
Anyway, my MIL can knit and she'd love to knit a couple of soakers for me (actually, they are for DS who is 2 months old today. I think I prefer a soaker to shorties as they might give a little bit more blow-out protection.
What is your favourite pattern and yarn? I don't mind paying for the pattern if necessary, but would obviously prefer a free one. Is the Fern and Faerie free pattern any good?
