    Arnica questions

The Man rolled his ankle yesterday at work really badly, but doesn't want to go to the drs (as he knows what they'll say; rest, elevation, strapping). I was thinking just now, would arnica ointment be any good to him? And do I need to go to the health food shop, or would the chemist have it?

He does seem to be getting a bit concerned about it now though, as its coming up in a ripper bruise, and is the worst he has rolled it I think. He said before that he didn't want to have any nurofen as he didn't want it to feel good and then walk on it or not know if there was something really wrong.

Has anyone used arnica, or is there something else anyone might suggest?

    Thanks!

Arnica would work fine It will reduce the bruising.

My dad used to bind up our sprained ankles in rags that have been soaked in vinger. It smelled, but kept the swelling and bruising to a minimum. And you have to bind it up tightly. Not blue-toe tight, just nice and tight and supported

I stand corrected .. there is a simpler way

Wash the ankle very frequently with cold salt and water, which is far better than warm vinegar or decoction of herbs. Keep the foot as cool as possible to prevent inflammation, and sit with it elevated on a high cushion. Live on low diet, and take every morning some cooling medicine, such as Epsom salts. It cures in a few days.

You could also try the Arnica pilules, so taking it orally. I took these right after my labour with DS2 and healed much quicker than my firs labour, definately reduces the bruising and promotes healing.

You can buy Arnica ointment and pillules (tiny little tablets that you dissolve under your tongue) at Chemists. I used the pillules recently to reduce swelling and bruising associated with minor surgery on my forehead. I swear it worked! I had hardly any bruising and only very mild swelling. The surgeon actually recommended Arnica. I figure it must be good, for a surgeon to recommend a homeopathic remedy!

    I recommend Arnica wholeheartedly!
