Oh ouch You are really having a rough time of it I think you are wonderful for hanging in there.

How long does it take from when you notice the sore spot through to the fever/chills?

Sore spots are generally blocked ducts. Sometimes feeding in different positions can help drain the blockage, before it turns into mastitis. Massage in the shower can help. Massage while feeding can also help. Just rub it gently from the outside down towards the nipple.

Do you think DD is fully draining each breast when she feeds? ETA: not fully draining as in not a single drop of milk left, but draining so that you don't still feel full and uncomfortable, do you get what I mean?

Well I noticed a tender feeling Tuesday night during a feed, Wednesday morning was the bruised, slightly pink appearance, Wednesday evening the chills started then fever.
This time there seems to be a lump just top left of the nipple which is the red area, then the tenderness and swelling follows out in lines under my arm and toward my shoulder.
Really don't know how to position her to get rid of it.

I have been trying to make sure it feels soft after and massage while I feed. Luckily she's oblivious to it all.
The stuff I took yesterday seems to have helped. Because the flu like symptoms are gone, just the red sore breast now. Also my lymph nodes in my armpit have gone down which is good because they were painful!
