Hey Carrie!
Great to hear from you too!
Did you have one or two babies transferred? Possibility of twinnies there???????
Can't wait to hear about your scan. Hoping all goes well tomorrow.
Kyla and Ivy sound very similar! Excellent news that she is taking a few steps! You won't know yourself once she starts walking full time!
-
Hi Carrie,
I'm soooo happy to hear that Kyla is taking a few steps now, WTG Kyla!!!
Yeah, Liam fell off the tramp a few weeks ago and broke is collar bone. But he seems to be doing ok so far.

She crawls flat out & gets into mischef alot (not looking forward to when she realises she can walk & reach higher things !!!).. she is as cheeky as they come & has the coolest sheeky grin... she is doing really well & gaining weight like a trooper.. no wonder with the amount she eats!!!!.... she is starting to ween herself off the bottle but is drinking water & juice out of her bottle herself though...
She has her first cold, has a runny nose & sneezing & is really clingy atm (I dont mind the cuddles though LOL)... not too bad I though to get this far without her being sick!!!>...

I have read all your posts though and I am glad to hear that there are such good things happening with all your little ones. Our premmies are doing us proud!
Thanks everyone for your encouraging words and well wishes. I will catch up with you all when I get home from hospital.
Carrie, I hope all went well with your ultrasound today & Tiff, I hope you and Ivy are feeling ok.
Bye for now!
Bec
ETA: Tiff - sorry, I forgot to answer your question...I'll be texting a few BB girls tomorrow after the bub is born so I'm sure someone will post for me. (You are on my list of people to text though, so you'll get the news asap!)

Wishing you every happiness today as you meet your little girl.
-
Hi Ladies.
Has anyone had any news on Bec???
Awww I'm so looking forward to knowing how everything went :D
Raven.
-
Tiff- The scan went well! We only had one transferred, so not twins lol. So I saw the little blob yesterday and a heartbeat. All is going well!
Raven- I'm glad that Liam is getting better!
Mitch- Alexa sounds like she is doing so well! Wow, standing on her own too!!
Bec- Congratulations on the birth of Evie!!!
-
Yay Carrie, such good news! Am very happy for you, hun.
-
Hi Ladies,
Just wondering if I can join your thread?? I am Kris, mum to two beautiful boys, Tate (2.5 years) & Chad (6 months). Chad was born @ 33 weeks weighing 2.3kg due to a placental abruption.
Look forward to getting to know you all & your beautiful bubs :)
-
Hi Kris and welcome!
My DD Gemma was also born at 33 weeks, weighing 1800g, & is now 9 months old. Her birth was a c/sec planned at very short notice. I've also had an abruption, with DD Sophie, unfortunately too early for her survival. Many of us have had scary histories, so you're not alone :) .
How is Chad going now & has he gained weight well? Several mums have commented on the disappointing weight gain until about 6 months, when they started solids. Are you having any paed follow-up?
-
Hi Kris! Welcome to our little group!!!
It must have been a scary time for you when Chad was born. THe girls here are all really lovely with prems old and new.
Looking forward to chatting with you and hearing all about Chad's brags!
-
Hi Castle & Tiggy,
Thank you for the welcome. It was a pretty scary time with Chad but he is doing great now. I had him weighed this morning and he is 7.7 kg (6 months today). He is not doing everything his 6 month old mates are doing but he is progressing well.
I feel like a fraud being part of a premmie forum as I have been through nothing in comparison to most of you. I was lucky enough to be able to take Chad home straight away & didnt have to endure the SCBU rollercoaster ride. I was in hospital for a fortnight before his arrival & had a series of steriod injections which I am so grateful for.
Castle, i am so sorry for the loss of Sophie & all the other mums & angels.
-
Hi Luv My Boyz...
My Daughter Alexa was born @ 32 weeks & was 1660g (3lb 11oz), we spent about 6 1/2 weeks in hospital & although it was a hard time, I met some amazing ppl in there..
The girls in here are awesome & are great to talk to...
Alexa is almost 15 months & in some aspects is ahead of her cousin (born 6 days after her & 10 days early) and in others she is behind.... but all in all we are about average i think LOL...
I am so glad you were able to take your wee man home straight away he was a great weight!!!
-
hi luv my boyz.
my son was also born at 33weeks and 2.3kg at birth! he turned 1 last month and is going really well development wise. He spent 4 weeks in hospital and would you beleive came home exactly 1 year ago today! This time last year he was having his first nap in his new home.
Nixon has a middle ear infection in 1 ear atm. Tiff you must know all about these. he seems to be quiet well considering and he also has a slight cold AND conjunctivitis in one eye.
Other then that though he is crawling faster and faster and has started to let go when standing up, he can balance for 5-10sec when he doesn't realise!
i hope everyone is going well and Ivy is on the mend Tiff.
Carrie how's the pg going?
-
Thats amazing Nic, Chad was 33.3 weeks like Nixon & 48 cm long. Very impressive. Hope he is feeling better with his ear infection.
Mitch, Alexa must have been tiny. I know alot are smaller but I can imagine anyone smaler than Chad was. I think your right though, they do even out over time. They seem so behind for the first couple of months but by the time they are a year they seem to have caught up.
-
Hello havn't posted in here for a while, too much going on at home. Life is progressing smoothly and for those that don't remember me I am fairly new and have a 14mnth old(11mnths corrected) so she was born at 25w/6d at 1lb 1oz or 535g. she is nearly walking! My paed says developmentally she is more to her chronological age how is that possible for such a tiny person? Ava is still only just 7kg but 75cm long eats like a horse mind you! anyway just a refresher and i hope to see more posts in here soon
take care Helena mum to Ava and Emily 10
-
Hi Helena,
Great to hear that Ava is doing so well! What a lucky mum you are. My dd Gemma is also going very well...crawling & pulling up all the time. This activity has really helped her sleep patterns :D .
I also have a 10 year old. It's nice to see other people with various gaps between their children. Most of my friends have children the age of my older ones. I'm the odd one out with babies.
-
Hi Helena!
Welcome! Good to hear that Ava is doing well.
Castle. I hear you on the odd one out thing. All my friends (aside from you and Babyamore) have well and truly finished their families. They look at me with pity when they see me with al the kids. Not that I feel that way at all. I love having them, at whatever age and stage.
-
hi just wondering aswell if i could join your thread??? :) Charlie was born at 31 weeks due to a 22mm tear in my placenta that had gotten infected, he was born weighing 2.0kg and spent 4 weeks in nicu we had a really hard time getting him of the vent and cpap  and another 6 weeks in special care and childrens ward , he is now 14months and fearless but he suffers from central brain sleep apnea. we are trying to have another aswell,
i to look forward to getting to know everyone
-
Welcome Kate! It sounds like Charlie is going really well after a rough start. What are you doing for the sleep apnea?
Gemma was born at 33 weeks & weighed 1800 g. We were very lucky because she did well from the beginning & was sent home after only 2 weeks. However, then it was welcome to 3 months of trying to get her to b/feed properly! All of that is behind us now & she is crawling everywhere.
I think you'll enjoy being part of the group.
-
thanks for the welcome
we are trying to get him into new :doctor: 's at the moment, the ones that we have been seeing are just going around and around with what they are saying we can never get a straight answer from them.
apart from that he is a very happy and fearless little man that is tying so hard to walk and talk at the moment, he gets really up set when he can't do what he want's to do.
charlie never really got to b'feed i think all he got was 2 weeks worth there was something about me that was making him sick, but he is a big boobies little man now every female that holds him he has to check them out its the :cryinglaugh: thing i have ever seen this 14 month old checking out chicks boobs, and he even says boobies when he does it, i think that i can blame his dad and granddad for that one
-
luvmyboys- how funny that our boys were the same gestation weight and length! They were both good sizes and lengths for the time they were born wernt they
Hi sweet-bear and welcome. charlie also sounds like he was a good weight for his age. LOL at saying boobies! good luck with TTC baby 2 also!
Nixon has a cousin born 4 days after him but she was FT, Nixon has always been behind her in the milestones, used to be a lot smaller then her but he caught up and they are about the same size now
i hope everyone is well
-
Hi all and welcome to everyone who has just joined the thread.
Kate- Charlie sounds gorgeous, my little girl Kyla has also learnt the word boobies and thinks they are quite funny! Good luck in ttc #2!
Helena- Great to hear that Ave is doing so well!
Luvmyboyz- Welcome to you also!
Hi everyone else!
Nic- Hope that Nix is better now and that the ear infection has gone, poor bubba. I'm doing well, just so so so tired all the time and always thirsty, but the nausia seems to have gone. I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow!! How is your bump going?
Tiff- Hope you are well and that Noah and Ivy are too!
*****************MAJOR BRAG ALERT*************************
Kyla walked for the first time last week!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!! not only did she walk but she took about 12 steps. If you want to see a cute video of her first steps go to my site - it's sharkeyfamily with a dot net.
YAY KYLA MY SMART GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
OMG CONGRATS Carrie!!!! that is the best news!!!!! I bet you are P. R. O. U. D!
Brag away.
Will come back and post later about the terrible two.
-
Hey Tiff- yep i'm very proud!!! So was Kyla!
Looking forward to hearing how your gorgeous two are.
-
hi all just a quick post to let you know that Ava had her eye appt for retinopathy and passed with flying colours again. No more eye docs for a year. We have the 12 mnth corr checkup soon and I am confident things are O.k. Ava pushed her walker across the room today and is really keen to walk:dance:this means she will be walking hopefully before her corrected date on the 9th of june. Everybody's babes sound as if they are going great guns. i never thought i would be so happy to share Ava's milestones with other mums becos of all the trauma we have endured in the last year, but... you guys are absolutely , fantastically positive and supportive so thankyou all for encouraging me to keep posting.
Helena mum to emily 10

-
Wasy to go Kyla!! brag away Carrie thats great news!\
Helena, glad to hear that Ava's eye appoint went so well and no more eye check ups for another year yay!
-
Carrie, congrats on Kyla! That is so worth a brag! These babies are stacks of fun.
Helena, what great news about Ava's eyes. Sounds like her progress has been amazing.
Gemma is doing well, crawling everywhere & pulling up. She never sits--only stands, kneels, or crawls! She went to bed early tonight after 10 minutes of controlled crying (with a few intervening back pats & soothing words). I hated to do it...but she struggles to stay awake whenever I'm around (ie, all the time) and would be up till 10 every night unless I did something. Even the time-honoured "nursing off to sleep" doesn't always work. She is just too anxious to be part of everything. Always plenty of activity at our house!
Any other news? hello to everyone!
-
hey guys can i join this thread MY dd kenzee is 14 months old she was born at 35.5 weeks after a trying to come out at 22 weeks nd then manny times after thet we was stoked to keep her in as long as we did her birth weight was great for that of a 35 weeker she was 3 kilos but soon dropped down to 2.5 which i know is still pretty big but unfortunatly her weight was deceaving and she wasnt as healthy as we would have hoped she has had a tough 14 months with 2 operations on her airways 2 operations on her tummy and is still 100 percent tube fed at the moment she is on a feed into her tummy but next month she is getting her tube changed a a gastrostomy with a jejaluem port si that she feeds into her intetines, we are not looking forward to her going in for that op as she had major troubles last time and ended up needing to be back on oxygen for a few days, she also has hyertonia, and sensory intergration issues so she is under a ot and physio for thoses issues,
she is now as i said 14 months old and weighs in at a unhealthy 6.5 kilos so she went from being a big premie at bith to now being the size of a former micro premie
-
hi Mikenzees mum, nice to meet you and it sonds like you and your daughter have had it rough. I am the mum of a micro premmie- born at 25/6 weeks weighing in at 535g. she is also 14 mnths old 11 corrected and weighs in at 7.0 kg which to us is amazing. She is nearly walking and we have been gobsmacked at her progress. i hear so many stories of babes like your DD who have many problems even though they have been born close to term. I wonder why this is? we have been extremely lucky and my heart goes out to you and yours for all your dedication to nurturing your child. it takes a special kind of person/family to undertake all that you have undertaken. so welcome welcome welcome
Helena 36 mum to emily 10
Ava 25/6 weeker now 14 mnths 11 corr
-
hi Mikenzees mum,
welcome to the group, it sounds like you guys have had a very tough time. what was the reason she almost came at 22weeks and many times after?
It was great that you got so far along in the pregnancy but you have still had to endure many complications and hurdles.
Like Helena said, it takes a special kind of family to endure all that you guys have.
My son was born at 33+3weeks after ruptured membranes at 32+5w. He is happy and healthy now but the first 5 days he was quiet sick for a 33weeker. I quiet often feel a little bit out of place speaking with some mums of micro premmies and they presume that because he was a 33weeker he must have been fine. No one in here just to clarify everyone in here has been so supportive and helped me in every step of the way since he was born.
Im now pg with baby 2 and hoping this one stays FT. I have a gut feeling they may not happen but still hoping and praying that it does.
i hope her op goes a lot smoother this time for you next month.
for the regulars in here, i have my ultrasound on Monday and hoping we find out the sex! My OB has also requested i have a further scan at 26w to check the blood flow through to baby's heart he was a little concerned from some results on my 12w scan. im staying optimistic!
-
hi thanks guys
helena im glad that your former micro premmis is doing so well walking at 11 months corected that so great, sounds like she is gaining weigh wel thats great would have been a hard strugle
Nic i know what you mean about people asuming a 33 or 35 weeker is all good and has no health issues at all i so wish that was the case congratulations on your pregnancy praying for a full termer for you
The reason i went into labour at 22 weeks was i had PROM then its sealled over but not properly so it kept hapening again
-
Hi Mikenzees mum & welcome to the group! I'm sorry to hear about your rough past year. I hope your dd's 2nd year will only get better.
Nic, what you said is right on target. Gemma came at 33 weeks & even though everything was fine...she was always pink & breathed well, never set off the monitors, no circulatory issues...you still are dealing with a tiny, sleepy baby who is very hard to feed properly.
Since there were no health issues & she was discharged from NICU so quickly, everyone thought that I was just "home with the baby" as if with any other newborn. Many people were surprised to learn that I was not able to return the breast pump until she was well over 3 months old. I felt like I was living in a fog until she was about 6 months old.
Nic, I hope you go FT! I know, we get so wound up in these feelings...and you wonder how much to trust yourself, or if you are making it difficult when it doesn't need to be.
-
off the subject but sort of on the subject of people assuming. i am finding it incredibly difficult to keep sick people away and for them to understand that Ava, even though developmentally is doing well, she still has a compromised immune system and has only been off home 02 for 5 mnths.I'm ALWAYS having to explain her corrected age and that she does not do things like full termers. prems no matter what their gestation deal with a whole range of problems. I AM SO SICK OF EXPLAINING THIS!!!!!!somedays I just want to cry. I don't really have a social life becos hubby works away and becos winter is approaching so is flu season. People just don't understand that i cannot/ will not take ava into crowded places still becos of this. One flu could put her on a ventilator as she still has chronic lung disease. Does anyone else have these issues? and to top it all off i don't have any support and havn't had any support for babe since coming home. i've had to endure this myself while DH works away. I'm tired, lonely and just plain upset over the whole premmie experience.
sorry about the vent ladies but Mikenzees mum has brought it to the surface for me.(not blaming hon just needed a vent you've helped humble me somewhat) I really feel for everyone who has stuff going on with their babies all the time. Just wanted to clarify that Ava is not out of the woods yet. everyday is a challenge.
-
i so see where you are coming from helena everyone seems to think that cause mikenzee is over 1 now she has the immune system of any other child and it is so not the case as with your litle one, i have had people come near her with a cold or something and be like oh all kids get it doesnt do any harm and it frusatrates me cause everytime kenz gets a cold she ends up with a full blown chest infection and cant breath with out o2
Iknow that Ava wouldnt be out of the woods yet i was just looking for the positives, i know everyday is a strugle and every illnes brings back nicu memeories and fears of what the illness will turn into
-
hey mckenzees mum, it is really hard to stay positive all the time, damn i think i've stayed pretty positive despite repeat hospitalisations and to be honest it has made me appreciate my life a little more each day. I never took my pregnancies for granted and someone had a plan and this is what we have. most days are great but today and lately more days have been ..you know... woe is me but i remain faithful to raising healthy happy kids. Sometime I really needa break. hubby and I have not had much time together in the last 14 mnths and frankly i need a rest. I really do think you are marvellous and I think mums and dads of prems and sick prems deserve medals.
-
Mikenzees mum- you did extremly well to have PROm at 22weeks and make it to 35weeks. I had PROM at 32w5d and only lasted 5days, doc did tell me the longest i'd hold out would prob be 4 weeks so to hold out 13weeks is amazing.
helena- your doing great and you do need a break. unfortunatley the relationship between the mum and dad are usually the first to suffer because baby obviously comes first. do you have some family you would feel comfortable leaving Ava with even just for a few hours so you and DH could go have a nice lunch or dinner and walk somewhere?
-
nic
I was very luck y in that aspect at 22 weeks only had a relitively small leak so i sealed over somewhat but unfortunly not well enough, unfortunatly though some of kenzee develpopement was hindered from then on
helena you are doing so well to stay positive i know how hard it is, and i so understand about it being hard to have time with your husband, we have the same thing and when bubs are sick like all of iurs on this thread they tend to be very dependent on there mums 24 7 which get draining
-
hey everyone just wanted to thankyou for understanding how difficult things can get.
unfortunately my parents live 3 hrs away and yes a break is definantley on the cards pretty soon. i don't trust my mother in law all that much and she lives 5 min away. there have been times when hbby and i just wanted to have a nice dinner out and MIL goes to bed at 8pm and won't come to our house to babysit(upsets her routine) so i said to hubby that without a support network our relationship is fast going down the toilet. I really need to unwind and feel female again, not just a mum.that came out badly but i think you get my drift. I love my kids to bits and am fiercely protective but... jst lately have wanted to be on my own and feel resentful that the kids are around. That sounds so selfish and I am guilt ridden for thinking this. I've been wondering if the whole hospital experience has somehow caught up with me because as you know you are on auto pilot most of the time concentrating on getting your babe home. Even when i came home it was tough, always worrying about their health, the impact on your other children becos you were not there for them alot. (this is my experience anyway) god I'm rambling. Do you think this could be delayed shock? i think I need help.
