early kids: I was able to take him home after 12 days as the hospital we were transferred to had room for me to board so I could BF him every feed. I spent 3 or 4 days boarding then the 2 days of rooming in. When he was born he was breathing fast so they just took him to the SCN where he was in the incubator thingy for only 24 hours then he was happy breathing on his own. I had GD so they had to put a canula in his little arm for sugar water just in case, and he had that apnea monitor on his chest just in case. He pulled the canula out after 3 days I think. He pulled the tube out of his nose once or twice, luckily couldn't get his hands on the apnea machine Was so horrible seeing him like that but then the tubes started coming out and every one that came out was like a step towards him being strong enough to come home so it was a good feeling.

Sounds like he did well Kitty! DS2 was in NICU for 24 hours, SCN for 6 days and then transferred to my local at one week. I then discharged ourselves on day nine but had to keep taking him back for blood tests on day 11 they were satisfied and let us go for good So different from DS1....

glad things are going well for you too! And a home birth after a prem! That's awesome!
Thanks for the reminder about PMing, I had to re-register bacause it has been SOO long since I've been on here so post count started again.

Yes and I'm so very glad I had a home birth too (labour and delivery were only 1 1/2 all up so I definitely wouldn't have wanted to be going to hospital!!), my 1st daughter was early because of partial placental abruption which I had already delt with a few times through pregnancy so I was not expecting (& didn'y have) any complications with 3rd baby. I am planning to home birth again this time but not sure if it will be with a private MW at home or through the community program in Perth again. Have tentitively organised for both but if it's in Perth (my preference) then we will have to find a rental after we get back from holidays. Bit crazy but very exciting!

Oh reflux sucks Especially silent reflux

I fed my boys in little spurts, 30ml then wind, 5min BF then wind. I also fed them as upright as I could and we raised the head end of their beds (a folded towel under the mattress in the bassinet).

    I hope that helps x

DD is 4 1/2 months and ever since she got home at 6 weeks her bed had been propped up.
It causes her alot of distress to sleep on her back and she doesnt sleep at all like that.

She's on Zantac too, and will probably be for a couple of years.

DS is the same, his bassinet is propped up by a towel otherwise he gets a tummy ache. I also give him Infacol every 2nd feed to help with wind. Is Zantac like Infacol??

Infacol just helps to bring the wind up and Zantac is an antacid...it reduces the amount of acid so it doesn't burn coming up.
DS4 started throwing up before he came home (about 13 weeks or 38 weeks gestation) and it got worse...he ended up on losec and domperidone but it didn't help with the vomiting. It was one of the reasons for his FTT.
We have always had his bed end raised.

I started another thread to celebrate one year home with my little man...it was such and awesome day 10days (14weeks 3 days) after he was born we finally got to take him home.
It was so good to finally be able to be a mummy to him after so long...I think I stared at him for a weeks straight

I cant believe I only just found this topic...

My DS was on Zantac aswell, we did the same as some of the others have suggested - burp every 30mls, mattress on an angle...

Also, the 1 thing I wasnt told about Zantac - as your baby puts on weight, the dosage needs to be increased. G was a different baby when he first started taking it, but after 2 weeks, he started to go backwards. We spoke to the GP, increased the dosage, and it worked a treat!

Having said all that, he was only on it for a couple of months and then he grew out of it, thankfully!

Good Luck, I hope it works for you.

Yeah, they told us that DD will need her dose increased. She's on .23ml twice a day as she was 2.34kg when she came home. She's now 4.75kg and we haven't seen the need to increase her dosage. The surgeon doesn't see the need for it to increase, either.
Will talk about it in 2 weeks when DD's surgical review comes out.

That's a good sign Charlotte that you haven't had to increase the dose.

We have since discovered that all three kids probably had reflux, but with dd1 I had the time to hold her and keep her upright so it minimized her symptoms apart from the chucking but she was always a happy chucker. She had lots of smaller feeds and had to be kept upright for a minimum of half an hour after feeds. Her cot was elevated too.

Dd2 was more miserable until 4 months I didn't leave the house with her unless we had too but only Ds needed the zantac.

we were lucky that DS didnt have reflux. he would spit up occassionally after a feed but i always kept a towel under his head when he slept for jic. i stopped that when he was 7 months old as he stopped.

for all those babies with reflux, i hope they all get better soon

    Hey lovely ladies,

    Just an update from me.

First a WOO HOO - I made to past DD's birth gestation. Now I am 31 WEEKS, so I am the most pregnant I have been.

Now a BOO HOO - at 30 weeks I had bleeding (NOOOO) so off to hospital we went. One day more than miss K. This was how it began with her. I was sooooooo freaked out. Luckily it was small and after 3 days in hospital I was discharged. BUT they FINALLY assessed all the results from her birth as they are still undecided if it was the placenta praevia or an abruption last time. Blood tests showed evidence of an abruption! Doubles the risk of a second one and now with bleeding i am at higher risk.

So now we are on tenderhooks and so scared that our little boy bump will come early or he will not make it. I so want my VBAC,but If i have not gone into labour before 38 weeks they will do a c-section. Too dangerous they think in case I abrupt and last time it was me losing the blood, but DD's heart rate dropped fast as well.

So I am not having the ideal final trimester I dreamed of, but know the focus should be on a healthy baby and a healthy me.

Every day is an extra day of growth for the little chap, and nothing may happen anyway.

    xx

Shaz, congrats on hitting 31weeks! Thats terrible about the bleeding you must have been so freaked. FX that this little bun decides to stay on for as long as possible so you get your VBAC, but like you said, if you don't at least you will have a gorgeous baby boy
