Those agpgars are great! DS2 was 4(1min) & 7(5min) they didn't do a 10 min as he was being hooked up to everything at the time.

    Well done Amelia & lysdan!

Yeah, she was a pretty good colour when she was born, and took her own first breath but struggled a bit just after birth. They only vented because they had to put surfactant down her lungs, but after they did that she developed BPD so they kept the vent in. Apparently its a risk of using the surfactant.

It was a very traumatic experience but honestly, if I had to do it all again, if I knew everything was going to be ok and she would survive and thrive like she has ... I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

    *shhhh bit* lol...
I'm currently on the pill but we are looking to come off the pill (IF my BP returns to normal and my post birth issues sorted by then) after our holiday in March/April to "see what happens in the land of ttc" no temping, no charting, just no pressure really. It took clomid and monitored cycles to fall with Amelia. Although, with Zachy it happened naturally (but sadly was born sleeping)

Although I'm petrified of having another prem deep down. I know that I will be closely monitored next time, have growth scans more often etc. And I honestly wanted two babies earthside. I don't want Amelia to be an "only child"...

I can understand why you are so scared of having another prem. Although Hannah wasn't as early as Amelia, I'm scared too.
Fingers crossed for you that everything 'happens' and goes smoothly.

lynsdan - good luck with everything!

i can understand the whole being scared to have another prem. although DS was 34 weeks and really didnt need too much in the way of interventions when he was born, i am still petrified of having another baby prem! i know what to expect if i did but it doesnt make it any easier. especially now we live 5 hours between either melbourne or sydney and there is no NICU here

Lysdan I know how you feel.
Am currently 16weeks pregnant, & am also scared. There's a pretty high risk of this bub being prem, I'm scared that it will be too prem.

When you were discharged from hospital did they say much about the chances of you having another prem?

I'll have my fingers crossed for you.

They told me there was no reason why I couldn't have a term baby... Yet ds2 was 34weeks after weeks of contractions etc.... I have a few friends who have had very early babies and very IUGR who went on to have full termers. Anything is possible! At least next time you'll be monitored etc.

hehe I had to giggle at that one

The only advice I can give you Lysndan is that if/when you are ready to ttc make sure you are taking the supplements etc before you start. I have friends that started on things (meds, just can't remember what exactly) prior to pregnancy to help prolong PE occurring.

Yep, definately hun. That's what we were advised. Folate (prescription strength), baby asprin and possibly a blood thinning injection (depending on results from blood tests) and a pregnancy multi will be started about 6 months prior to ttc.

That and my iron levels have to be pretty spot on. And I have to be on clomid most probably. My body is just not quite strong enough to ovulate every month lol

But, not thinking about doing it yet. Frick, after the m/c I don't even want sex lol

I'm scared of having another premmie, but it's not really likely as Hannah was a planned c/s due to severe IUGR. And it's rare for bubs with gastroschisis to go past 37 weeks. That's usually the cut off. Alot of mum's actually go into natural labour at 35-36 weeks. It's amazing how your body knows.

The decision to TTC was a tough one. We knew there was a chance of gastoschisis reoccuring.

Has anyone requested their medical records for the birth? I want those pages of info. The debrief just wasn't enough.

Yep, I requested both my boys birth and nicu notes . I wrote them a letter requesting the files along with a copy of my drivers licence theirs and my birth certificate. Ring kemh just to double check though it didn't cost me a thing either.

Hey Serenity how is your pregnancy going? Had my morphology scan today & bub is doing fine. Had a huge tightening all through scan. Also the dr had them check cervix & other stuff to make sure it's not dilating yet.
    So far so good.

Hoping that everything goes very smoothly for you, Chrispe and you make it as close to term as possible.

Hannah is walking everywhere, her latest obsession is talking on the phone. She has a few different toy phones and she just wanders the house saying "Yeah, yeah, yeah, who is it? Yeah" and other babble and lots of laughs. I don't know who she is talking to. Someone she likes, as yesterday she grabbed her phone and said "Yeah, yeah, oh yeah baby."

She's going through a real fussy stage at the moment in regards to eating.
Seeing her surgeon for another review in the next few weeks, hopefully.

AFM: Bub is going well, measuring right on track for 28+4w. So am I, which is awesome as I only measured at 25w when I had DD at 34w. And Bub was head down, other amazing thing. DD was breech from 20w.
Placenta is still low-ish but OB happy. Getting it checked at 34w.

Hannah's APGARs were 9 at 1min and 9 at 5min. Which is the only reason we were allowed quick cuddles before she left.
