Hi ladies, guess I should introduce myself, I did post in the TTC forum for a while, my little girl was an IVF baby, 4 years in the making. She arrived in May, 4 weeks early. I just wondered for those of you with a baby born 4-5 weeks prem how long did it take for them to reach 14lbs/1 stone? My LO just turned 6 months & is still only 13.5lbs, she was born 5.5lbs. She is doing well after initial feeding probs & has recently started on solids but she still is slow to gain weight.
My little boy was born at 36 weeks (also an IVF baby). He was 2.48kg when born, which I believe is roughly the same weight as your daughter. He'd got to 8.45kg by the time he was 6 months old. He had a slow start, but then took off very quickly.
Thing is, he has been formula fed (my milk never came in) and boys grow at different rates to girls. Is she meeting developmental milestones? I believe that's more important than size - some babies are just meant to be small, and that's ok.
My little DD, is 1yr now and on her last weigh in a approx 3 weeks ago was only 5.9kg, she was born at 38wks and weighed in at 2.38kg then went down too 2.1kg and didnt get back upto her birth weight of 2.38kg until she was 5wks 4days.
How long is your DD now? Have you looked at her chart in the blue book to see if she is on the chart for her age in weight and length. My DD is with her pead as well as a dietician and have my DD as just over 1 1/2 kgs underweight for her length which is 65cm. (A length of approx 6mth old)
If your DRs are worried I am sure they would mention something to you, if you are worried about her, I would mention it to your DR.

At the last check up (couple months back now) she was doing fine according to the nurse, she's gained slightly more then the minimum they'd like to see & is at the low end of the milestones but holding steady. Not sure how long she is now, I'll have to meaure her later, she was 49 cms at birth. Also formula fed my milk didn't come in either. Am not overly concerned as she doesn't look skinny, just petite, alot of strangers come up & comment on how she looks just like a doll so I'll take that as a compliment!
Should not compare to other babies I know but its just a bit tough cause 2 of my close friends have babies, 1 is just a week younger but a good 4lbs heavier (boy with big parents!) the other is 2.5 months younger & is already 2lbs heavier, yikes! I look around & she just seems so tiny but she is v happy & healthy & has a good appetite, not a piggy, so I'm sure she will ok.
If the Dr's arent concerned then I wouldnt be either, unless there was something worrying you, then I would mention it to them. If your DD is happy and healthy and eating well thats great. Sometimes it is hard to not compare with others. V is quite small and always getting told by people she too looks like a little doll. V is also my smallest out of 5 kids, so I am not used to such a tiny little one at 1yr old. Thankful though that she is happy and healthy, is a very small eater, but I am sure things will improve with time.
Your little one sounds like she is doing beautifully. Just remember if your concerned then it doesnt hurt mentioning it to her DR's. At least they can reassure you too. hugs
My DD was born at 36 weeks weighing 6lb 12 oz.. by 6 months she was 8.2kg.. she never gained anything after that for some reason but was fine and is finally gaining weight and is now 11kg at nearly 2
