Ok so I am buying a Miyo baby hammock for bubby when he/she comes out then once bub grows out of that I would like to put bub straight into a bed with rails obviously the room is right next to ours and you can clearly hear a pin drop...
A friend of mine did this and she has found it easier to do that with her DD2 whereas DD1 was harder to convert.. And she also said bub sleeps at anyones house when they are out in there bed and she doesn't need to worry IYKWIM ...
Not for me personally. It would mean you'd have to have rails right around the whole bed. Babies learn to crawl, and I would be worried about them crawling to the end and falling off the bed.
Sure it's good to have a baby that sleeps anywhere, but I'd prefer to know my baby is safe when I put it to bed.
Of course thats just my opinion. If you want to do it, then go for it
We've got a baby hammock aswell for bub's first few months and then bub will go into the cot when we're ready and bubs is ready..... the cot at the moment just seems waaaay big for a tiny teeny newborn!
As for your idea, not my cup of tea either sorry it doesn't sound totally safe iykwim?! Babies can start crawling after only a few months old and you never know what sort of dangers that can lead to....Beds are for bigger kids i feel anyway.
What age are you thinking of transitioning your bub? The bed rails really shouldn't be used until your bub is much older (toddler age). They aren't very high and your bub could easily stand up and fall over the top or as the others have said, he/she could crawl off the bed.
would go for a matteress on the floor , personally babies move around too much when they are in developmental stages ... like crawling .. and they cant really judge distances too well in the middle of the night ...
but ds is 22mths and still in a cot .. and im not sure if hes ready for a bed yet ..
Our cot converts to a toddler bed (can remove the sides) so I think we'll get a lot of life out of it to justify the cost and we got it from Target on sale for $150 so it's a bargain anyway. I'm no help with the sleep anywhere solution though- I'm trying to teach our son to give the port-a-cot a go with one sleep a day and getting nowhere fast
Personally I wouldn't do it - I have a 7yo that still falls out of bed sometimes LOL. They can get far too mobile and even if you think you are still close enough and will be quick enough to get them - it still wont be quick enough if they are on the brink of falling. I didn't put my older 3 into a bed till they were 2.
I wouldn't do it either. I put my eldest DD in a bed at 16 months.. way too early. She never fell out (thought I used to pull a spare matress out each night as a landing platform just in case), but would get up before I did and reek havoc. Get into the pantry, fridge, make-up.. everything. I'm a heavy sleeper, and never used to hear her. With my 2nd DD, she never went into a bed til she was over 2. It was good knowing she was out of harms way until I heard her.
I plan to keep the 3rd DD in her cot for another 12 months, and purchase a 2nd cot for the bubble in my tummy now.
DS nearly rolled off the sofa at 4 weeks old (YES early, was rolling with ease at 8w old). I wouldn't trust him alone in a bed for a minute.
I am thinking of taking the bars off now, not next to the wall but the side so he can get out of bed in a morning. He can safely climb down from my bed (higher up) and the sofa so it would be good to have him play in his room in the morning! But getting him to bed would be a problem then... or would it? I wouldn't have to lean over the bars to get him to sleep. May talk to DH about this at the weekend. But he's still waking up at stupid times in the middle of the night... but that could be because he's hitting the bars... which would mean he'd fall out of bed... but it's usually a trapped foot... AAAAAH decisions!
I started off with a moses basket then went straight to cot bed. This way I don't need to buy a "big boy bed" until DS is 5-7 (depending on height) and I'd go for a bunk bed with desk/sofa underneath then because those are SOOOO cool and I always wanted one. Oh yeah, and friends could stay over and he has space for homework and playing without taking over the house. I'm practical about it, I promise. Oh yeah, and I can climb in the cotbed when DS is really unsettled. I have to curl up my legs but I can snuggle with DS until he goes to sleep which you can't do in a normal cot.
DS will also sleep anywhere, in any cot. Travel cot fine, cot provided with a holiday home fine, my mother's cot she bought for him fine. It's the individual child, not the bed, that makes a child sleep anywhere.
DD1 is nearing 21 months and still in a cot...refuses her bed, but i did notice on her bed rail it says 'Not to be used for children under 18 months of age'.
Thanks for your input everyone I think I will just get a cot... See when my friend was telling me about it I was like oh cool but now you have made me change my mind Thanks very much xx I would prefer little bean to be safe!
