Just wanting to get some opinions/suggestions on baby monitors. At the moment we don't use one as we live in a smallish unit and Austin's room is right next to ours.

However we've decided to upgrade to something with a bit more legroom

This will mean Aussie's a bit further away from us and I wont be able to hear every little grunt at night. I don't feel comfortable not being able to hear him so I want to bet a baby monitor. I've been looking at the Avent monitor, has anyone tried this? or can you suggest an alternative?

Do the monitors make a lot of noise?

Any info anyone has would be great, we're willing to spend if it means we'll get a good one, I just don't want to spend lots of $$$ to get something that we might not end up using much kwim?
