We used a bassinette and then straight into the cot and had no issues. I just made sure before we moved him that we had a couple of days where all playtime was in his bedroom so he got familiar with his bedroom.

The snuggle beds are probably a good idea if you plan to breastfeed and co-sleep. Personally though if you weren't going to use them to co-sleep I wouldn't waste the money if you can borrow a bassinette.
