Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on breast pumps? Waste of money or invaluable? Am looking at the Avent one so DH can hopefully help with feeds.
I personally wouldn't get one straight up, If you have trouble feeding in hospital the MW will help you hand express, then after that they'll hook you up to a breastpump - once you've used them and you've decided you need one its easy to just get your DH to head up to the shops and buy one.
Otherwise, if you buy one and have no problems feeding or don't like them, its just a waste of money
I have a medela swing from my last pregnancy and it was invaluable for the very short time i needed it. I am so glad i have one because I do not know if this baby or future babies will take to the boob and its something that once you have it - you've got it for the rest of the babies.
Its a personal choice and they can be exxy but I am glad I have one already its just one less thing I have to think about now
I only fed DD for 7 days, but with both the boys I ended up buying a pump within the first week after we got home.. I just found it a useful thing to have, with DS2 I bought it the day after we got home, my milk came in & I was so engorged he couldn't latch on, used it just to 'take the top off'... then fed himfor 14mths so used it a few times!
Will be buying one straight up this time, I was going to go the Avent Isis (same as last time) but as I will be working I'm re-considering, think maybe an electric pump will be best. If you're only planning on occasional use atm, the Avent was great & very affordable.
With my first I was loaned one for a few weeks by the mw, then brought one and it was invalauble but as I went back to studying when she was 6 weeks old, needed it to express for her.
Since then have not used one as I am with bub. And found that my supply went to demand quicker with out it. I also see that dh can do other things than feed bub to play his role.
i got the medela breast pump and found it to be worth every pennny, i used it the first few days after getting home 'to take the top off' like jasp said. and am still using it now, i express milk for ds's cereal every morning!
i think there definatley worth having.
