It seems the maxi cosines car capsule is the online that actually fits onto the Donkey frame. And the maxi cosis have been recalled and who knows when they will be available again.
I think you're right about the Maxi Cosi being the only capsule that fits. But I hadn't heard anything about a recall? Can you tell me a bit about it, I'm a bit worried now cos we have one...

    ETA:

I just found this after googling, it seems the recall was quite awhile ago and a different model to what they sell here in Australia. The one that I've got (and I'm pretty sure it's the only model that meets Aus regs) is the Titan

Maxi Cosi Mico Infant Car Seats
July 24, 2009 - More than 28,000 Maxi Cosi Mico infant car seats are recalled because it's difficult to attach the car seat to the base. If the car seat is improperly mounted to the base, the child could be injured in a crash. This recall includes Maxi Cosi Mico models 22-371 and 22-372, and Maxi-Cosi Mico infant car seat system - base only, model 22-515, produced from July 2007 through February 17, 2008. the AU maxicosi mico seats have been recalled just rceently because on the new 2010 standards compliant capsule the tether strap is attached to the capsule meaning you have to totally remove the tether strap from the anchor bolt and from the car every time you rmove the carseat...they are redesigining this......

I'm pretty sure the recall isn't the maxi cosi mico 2011 model ones only 2009/2010 models? I may be wrong tho. They just stopped stocking them here and releasing a new model in julyish (or just released maybe?), called Titan.

melbel is 100% spot on. I actually managed to track down the GM of maxi cosi today and he was brilliant on the phone.

The current maxi cosi mico was recalled about 3 weeks ago due to the tether strap issue. He stressed to me today, it's not a safety issue, but a design fault - eg the capsule doesn't do what it was designed to do - get in and out of the car easily without completely undoing the tether strap.

Currently, they are redesigning them, then they will need to be retested and manufactured before they are available again. And at this stage he was honest and said they had no idea when that would be. It may be 6 months or it may be longer

So there is no maxi cosi capsule available to buy in australia on the market currently. Unless you can find a second hand one somewhere.....

Frustrating they can't even say when the new model will be released

Huh! Well I have a good mind to give our local baby shop what for! They said they didn't know why they were not doing the mico anymore, assured me it wasn't a recall but we could get the equivalent model in July!

I know this is a bit off topic from the donkey but I'm still confused: has the maxi cosi mico actually been recalled in Australia or have they just stopped selling it until its redesigned? I couldn't find any info on a product recall on their website

As gar as I cam ascertain they withdrew all current stock from all australian stores, and offered any customers that complained about the tether strap issue making if difficult to use etc - their money back. They had no problem with taking them back from customers...

AP I would be putting some serious pressure on your local baby store to prove to you how they know they will actually have a maxi cosi for you in July. Ever store I have spoken to (all around the country) as well as maxi cosi themselves - have not been able to give me a date on when the redesigned models will actually be available back in stores. The stores I have spoken to said they will be offering their clients with maxi cosi lay buys etc other models such as the peg Viaggio.

I have now ordered my Donkey (very excited about that but am freaking out about what to do about capsules???

I think I'll have to give up on the maxi cosis - I just don't reckon they will be ready before my babies are born in sept.

Yeah they did go on to try to force the s&s unity on me if I was wanting one now, After me saying about the crash rating getting 1 out of 5 compared to the maxi cosi's 4.5... The worst bit is they are normally really good, I must have gotten a dodgy sales person... Looks like we are getting the peg perrigo one, those r the only 3 that fit our pram!

Back to the donkey yay! How exciting ttl! What colour did u order?

Hey gorgeous AP - I ordered black bottom with off-white tops. Probably will be hard to keep clean - but I just couldnt resist

I'm stuck now because the only car seat that fits the Donkey is the maxi cosi - same as you we've ordered 2 peg's.

I wouldn't get the unity either - even if it does fit your pram, according to Chep - thanks frangipani - it's only got one star so just not worth it!

Sorry to bring the discussion back to the Maxi Cosi, but I am really confused! From what I can tell it's being recalled because you have to remove the tether strap to take it out of the car, correct? But from what I know, all capsules in Australia work that way. We had a SnS Unity with DS1 and had to do the same thing. I was under the understanding that the tether strap was a requirement for Australian Standards and that is why many of the European and US models don't meet our standards. So I can't see how they could redesign it without you having to undo the tether strap and still have it meet our standards. Even when we moved DS1 to the SnS Meridian we still had to loosen the tether strap to get him out....

It has been recalled because the tether strap was actually permanently attached to the capsule,I.e. stitched on, so that you had to actually undo it from the anchor bolt to remove the capsule from the car.....it was only only on capsules made to the new standard so only a few had been sold. They removed all stock from the shops and although it has Not been widely advertised if you are unhappy with yours they are giving refunds. This is not the original micos just a few that we're in the latest design release.....basically someone stuffed up in the design.....who wants to have to cart the tether strap around with you when the capsule is not in the car.

Oh and the word on the grapevine is that the new safety first capsule might just fit onto the maxi cosi adapters making it a possibility for the donkey....fingers crossed because it rates highly in the CREP tests.

can someone explain customs taxes to me? I am going to buy the Cameleon from a before mentioned website but I recently read on a FB page about people paying a customs fee or tax? It hadn't occurred to me and I can't figure out the fees which of course I need to include in my calculations of if it is cheaper to buy online or in a shop...

Thanks for clearing that up. What a massive design flaw! I can't believe they actually went into production with them. Mine definately doesn't have the tether strap permanently attached, so I guess I don't have to worry.

Mother Goose someone mentioned a Facebook group page earlier that might be helpful. Apparently noone has been charged GST yet, and if it comes in more than one package then customs may not catch on!

Mother Goose my Donkey is en route to australia and as far as I am aware no one has yet reported being charged the Duty or import tax on the the pram - that I've heard of anyway

I will keep you informed on my progress when it arrives - but I'd say this would e quite hard to calculate without knowing exact number of boxes it comes in, how the value of the pram is 'reported' on the accompanying paperwork etc. My DH works closely with shipping and freight around the world - and he seems to think we shouldn't have a problem just based on the nature of the product. However in a week or so i will be able to tell you exactly how it all goes for me! Fingers crossed! If we did get charged - I reckon it would be about 10% of the purchase price of the pram...

Melbel your my new capsule guru!! I've never heard of the safety first capsule - can you tell me more?
