maybe not, but then DD2 will be able to go into it and get him something more suitable then.
as he will be right in the maxi rider for a good 12 months and by that stage DD2 will be big enough for the maxi rider and BUB4 will go into DD2's seat or stay in their seat
The Hi Liner, you can adjust the height. My DD is 7, almost 8 and she is still in one. She is small for age and we still have room to raise the head rest. She uses the normal seatbelt but for your DS I would use the H-harness which slips through the shoulder holes (new H-harness, different to the old ones). Only cost me about $160 at Baby Bunting for the seat. The Hi Liner (and I think the Infa Secure is the same) should suit your DS (or DD) until they no longer need a booster. I thought the H-harness was rated to 26kg, but not absolutely sure??
not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but you can get a booster seat that is actually suitable from 8kg's all the way until they're 7 years old, it has the 5 point harness in it still, (which you take out when they're too heavy/too old) so it is essentially still a carseat, but you dont have to worry about the safety in that sense! and your DD can use it when your DS grows out of it
there's plenty of different ones, but i know there's one in the Maxi-Rider range, but i just looked on baby kingdom website and they have a few, ill PM the link to the different ones, as im not sure if im allowed to post it?
Gem, yeah thats like what the maxi rider is - the current one we have that DS is in, thats why I got it for him, so it will last him till he's 7. However, I didn't expect DD1 to be so freakin' tall (monster father) and we're a bit short of cash at the moment, so my options are limited.
The Hi Liner one is under $200, the Hi Pod we got was around $200 too I think.
So they don't have to cost the earth, and lay by is your friend
Also, make sure you look second hand from other mums you know, or kinder friends etc.
yeh we got the hi pod brand that has the headrest that goes taller as it was dramatically cheaper and allowed for taller children and thus they were able to stay in the same seat until they are older. my understanding is that the built in clip on all models (maxi rider or hipod or ??) goes until 18kg and then you needed a harness (whether it be straight H or the one that is about $10 more and splits to go through the shoulder slots in the seat) or normal seatbelt after that anyway. I used the harness initially but have changed it now to just a booster with seatbelt for my oldest cause hes taller hipod are also slightly narrower than the maxi rider.
there will be booster seats coming onto the market soon for taller kids, i know it was in the media a fe months back, not sure whos making them though, so really im not much help
though a friend told me recently that its safer to use the proper seatbelt i think in conjuction with part that goes between the legs... cant remember the name of it..than the H harness!
Yeah the Safe n Sound ones have a special loop that goes around the lap part of a seat belt to hold it over their hips where it should be. And if the seat is fitted properly the sash part actually goes through a slot on the side of the chair, so it comes over their shoulder in the correct position if the height of the chair is adjusted correctly, meaning they can't choke themselves or have internal injuries or something from the seatbelt moving in an accident.
and you use the part between the legs as well! the maxi rider AHR coame with another part that attaches to the clip at the crutch (i will find teh name for it lol)
The anti-submarine clip? It stops the lap belt from riding up onto the stomach and causing abdominal injury in the event of a collision. The lap belt should sit over the child's hips, not the stomach.
Ok after reading everything and researching our options - we had to make a hurried decision yesterday for a new seat because DD1's shoulders were wayyyy above the last shoulder slot of the straps - and I hadn't even noticed (bad mummy!!) ... soooo.. we went and got DS a booster seat - a safe and sound hi pod one or something like that - it comes with the anti submarine clip so he fits quite nicely into that. Now we have DD1 in his old maxi rider, but she is already in the highest shoulder strap slots, so I doubt it will last till she's 4 - hopefully she will stop growing quite so quickly and wait till DD2 is 14kg (she's only 10kg at the moment) so she can go into the maxi rider - cos I think its from 14kg? Or is it from 8kg, can't remember.
So at the moment, everyone fits into their seats - except I want to get a new one for the baby and DH won't let me
