I like the Close Carrier for newborns until they get to about 8kg, and then something more supportive like a mei tai or a soft structured carrier (like an ergo).
I'm not a fan of the ergo myself, its comfy, but the back is quite short, and if you have long children, you feel as though they are flopping all over the place. I have a Beetlebum half buckle mei tai, which is awesome, and a Dream Carrier full buckle carrier - but I also have a kleinsmekker mei tai, which is sooooo darn comfy (even though I'm selling it, but only cos DH is spitting a bit about all my carrier stash and its his favourite so I'm selling HIS favourite and not mine.. bahahahahahaha)
I haven't tried a hug a bub so I can't comment on that, but I'm pretty useless with wraps, I had a Storch wrap for a while and it just frustrated the heck outta me trying to get it to work with a wriggly baby.
