Change Tables?

im contemplating buying a change table, but im just wondering if it is worth it? did you use it enough to warrant buying it or will it be a waste of money?

the change table im looking at is pretty much a chest of drawers with a change table on top, but then im looking at a chest of drawers also..

thoughts? comments?

I know lots of people use a bed etc. but we used ours both times until they were about 2 ish - saves your back!

I didn't use one with DD1 but found a change table a god send with DD2, I have bought one that has a bath underneath this time around ... I was looking at the chest of drawers ones but the way our house is set up this in built bath is going to help me a lot.
I guess it's all just trial and error figuring out what works for you and what doesn't, if you do buy the one with the chest of drawers underneath then it won't be a waste (IMO) if you decide the change table part isn't for you because you'll still have the drawers

Hmm I just did a big reply then lost it..

We have one of the ones that is a chest of drawers that is much deeper so that you can use it front on as a change table. It has been brilliant and with DS front on it means he has to try very very hard to roll off. And there is room for all the wipes etc.

And yes it really saves your back compared to doing it on a bed.

We've had one for all 3 kids and have always used it and used it alot. When the kids got bigger i did/do use the floor or a bed and yeh it really does take a toll on your back. I wouldnt be without one with a baby and found it definately worth it.

God I wouldn't be without a change table. We've sold ours but if we have another that is one thing I will definitely be buying. Changing on a bed hurts my back and it's good to have everything where you need it.

If you have the room for a change table then I think its money well spent... it really does save your back IMO! I used a change table for DD until she was about 2.5yrs & DS until he was about 1.5yrs (had to sell DS's due to going through a divorce & needing to stay in a tiny flat with no room for a change table, otherwise I would have continued to use it)

If you dont have room then the bed or the floor works fine

Im currently pregnant with my first but I found a change table for sale for $50.

Its a sturdy frame with bath under the change mat, it has storage underneath it.

Target are selling the same ones in a cream colour for $199.

Before I got pregnant I thought I could do it on the floor or bed but Im over weight at the moment so I dont think it would be as possible as I thought. Also not possible if I have c/s.

We got a change table that just goes on top of the cot - it was $60. It's fab because we have a chest of drawers very close where the wipes etc are.

we got a sturdy 2nd hand dining table, a great big vinyl table cloth, and one of those cheap $25 bookshelves (50cm x 120cm x 30cm) which as have on its side at the back of the table. everything is really easily within reach, but still has its own spot.

so we stack nappies, wipes, wraps, etc in the shelves, talk, sudocrem, cotton wool wet on top, and we use the table for changing and bathing etc.

ended up cheaper than buying a change table, is the perfect height for your back, and when we don't need it as a change table, we can use it as a desk or give it away as a normal dining table, etc

Hmmmm, I'm interested in this one as well - with DD I never had a change table, just changed her on the floor, bed, my lap etc. But as my DH keeps pointing out quite gleefully, I'm not 21 anymore - so am thinking a change table might be a good idea.

I did see one that is a chest of drawers with a swing out change table part so you can stand front on - anyone used one of these before?

We used ours with DD till she TT, then with DS till about 12 months (Same time DD tt), as he wiggled to much on it..

Our beds are quite high though, so we don't have to bend as much as some do to use the bed.

The thing I would suggest though is having a draw underneath for creams, wipes, as these were a magnet for both children once they started crawling. That is the biggest regret about the change table I bought, not having secure storage of those items.

I bought a chest of drawers (at change table height) and a $20 change table pad from Big W. Worked out heaps cheaper!!

We have one on top if chest of drawers and still use it all the time. Both boys are changed on it every change at home and DS1 is nearly 3 and not TT.

We also have one with a chest of drawers underneath. It's great. My back would die if I had to do it on the floor or over a bed. Ds is still changed on it.

Couldn't survive without it. Love not having to cart stuff around the house to change nappies, don't have to bend over and everything stays neat and organised.

I was looking at the one with the drawers, but found one with a big basket on the bottom for the towels and linen/toys, a bath and the change table folds over the bath. also has a side caddy to keep everything in, I got it for $40 at St Vinnies and its in perfect order..... i use the bath as storage as i had already brought a bath that i prefer better and i just place the baby bath on top of the change table to gain more height for my husband to bath baby. The amount of times you change a nappy i dont think id go with out and im thinking with my husband and i being FTP he might feel more comfortable and feels the babys safer and more stable on the change table. hopes this helps???

We have one. Best money I spent.I regret the pricey cot but not the change table. It's used for every change here and saves our backs.
