Cot sheets - cotton or flanelette?

Just wondering what your opinions are on the cot sheets... some people tell me only cotton, but others are saying flanelette are the way to go...??

She's due in August, so it'll be cold for a few months, which I think is why people are saying flanelette. We're co-sleeping at night for a few months, and if she does go in the cot it'll be during the day...

What was your choice? And why? Does it matter?

Hey hun, good question! I would say get both! You need quite a few especially if bubby is chucky so you could be changing them very regularly! I find that flannel ones are much warmer and cosier for them in winter (I think they are still cotton? correct me if Im wrong anyone!) and the normal cotton ones are good when it is hot in summer. We also have a sheepskin underlay that is warm in winter and cool in summer under the sheets on her cot. It is much cooler in old Melbourne town though!!! HtH!

I'd buy a set of both, I'm due in October and I'm starting with flanelette then moving to cotton when the weather starts to heat up. I've found that having both means that the beds cooler in summer and warmer in winter. You'll more than likely use both as winter will be back again in a couple of months. I picked up a set of flanelette from k-mart for $12 on sale but I noticed that Target has them on-sale till Thursday for around the same price, which makes them affordable.

So, ah, about how many sheets lol! I'm not really sure how many is quite a few Like 5 or 6? Or more?

I would get 2 of each to start with and see how you go. Then if you have 2 in the wash you have 2 back up. Izzy wasn't spewy at all, but I have a friend who changes sheets every day so if you start with that many and then can add as you need them!

I used both and basically went with what was on our bed at the time. When we put flannelette, I put them on hers and vice versa. As for how many I had 3 sets of each - one on the bed, one in the wash and one spare. Thats what I was told anyways. Hope that helps.

I use flanelette in winter and cotton in summer - you could use either, it doesn't really matter, but I find that in winter the flannie sheets don't feel so cold to the touch, so when you put them to bed, they don't wake up because their warm little head is being put on cold cotton sheets. I have 3 sets of cot sheets, but will get another summer set soon. You can always use a terry flat folded in half or even a towel for her head to be on, so if she does posset in bed you only have to take that and wash it and not strip the cot kwim?

it doesnt really matter but flannelette are better in winter i found for my son. i have too many sheet sets lol

I have both.. flannelette are good in summer as a light blanket so will get used..

I find sometimes the cotton ares are a little cold to lay DD down in at night.. during the day its fine.. If she has cotton ones on he bed and its cold I lay a light soft blanket over the top

I have two flannelette and two plain sets of sheets. I love flannelette for winter.

Regarding spews, I used to put a flat cloth nappy under my DS's head and just change them when they got chucked on. It was heaps easier than having the change the sheets all the time!
