I bought some wall stickers from Aldi and (fingers-crossed) they really are "removable"!! We're lucky enough to have some paint in the garage that we can patch the walls with should they prove not to be so.
We have to move loads of times with defence and another trick to hang (lightweight) curtains is to use the small packets of stretchy wire (it's plastic coated) which comes with two different types of hooks - one is an "o" and the other hooks onto it. You buy them in spotlight and leave only the tiniest of holes in the skirting around the window which is easily covered up!
I'm in a rental also - I've bought 8 square canvases (about 50cmx50cm) and am in the process of stretching cheap, brightly coloured fabric over them and will hang them on the walls
Pins (like thumbtacks) into the seam between cornice and ceiling or wall and you can hang dangly things off those, and you won't see the damage after.
As others have said, quilt/rug makes a huge impact.
This is coming from someone who has a completely beige baby's room, oak furniture, and the only decorations are bright blue curtains and a blue and green striped blanket lol I'm meaning to paint him a frog-in-some-cool-plants large format canvas to hang on his wall, in mostly blue and green, or the poor child might feel neglected.
The other little one has a big swoosh of butterflies on her wall in pink, blue and orange, a stripey Ikea bedspread with lots of orange, pink and green in it, a bright green toybox and bright orange curtains. Looks pretty snazzy. Says the child, "I wike my new woom."
