HollyM.. Totally love ours, use it everyday, every nappy change when we are at home. I have a bad back and its a perfect height. I find DS doesn't roll or move when on change table however on bed or floor he rolls all the time and we have fight with him to change it.. I have little baskets on second and third shelves to keep his nappies, socks, swimmer nappies, blankets stuff. I have wipes, creams etc on his bookshelf near the change table so that he cant reach any of that stuff. he loves pulling out his nappies and putting them back inthe baskets.
Ikea have a great thing where its a changetable but also shelving you can pull it out and put it back up if you dont need it. Might be good for you if you dont have enough space.
we have limited storage, so bought a chest of drawers that can have a change mat placed on top - i'm honestly not sure how often it will be used as a change table (i've changed hundreds of nappies - always on the couch/bed/floor - usually sitting cross legged!) - but the option is there if i need it. i picked a set of drawers that isn't specifically a change table on top, but is the right size (if that makes sense?). we're planning on using MCN's so the drawers will be used to store that paraphernalia while i need it all, and then will be a set of drawers for clothes and things as the gremlin grows
I had major pelvic problems so put a change mat on top of a chest of drawers in the bedroom so I didn't have to bend. We also kept an extra stash of nappies/wipes in a drawer I cleaned out in the entertainment unit in the lounge (classy I know) so I could change DD on the couch if I wasn't putting her back to bed straightaway.
I reckon even if I'd bought a change table, I would only have used it for six months max as after that DD was a crazy wriggler and I wouldn't have felt safe. So now I just change her on the floor or the bed.
LOVE the change table. Like Sonia, our kids don't wriggle that much on the change table (I make good use of that strap! LOL) but changing them on the bed or floor is a nightmare.
But I do agree that it's what you get used to. I'm sure if you don't have room or whatever, you'll manage just fine without one
I did find it handy especially in the newborn stage when they pretty much guaranteed peed everywhere when the nappy came off tho! hehehehe. I'd hate for them to pee all over the bed or the carpet.
I have used a change table for all three of mine till they toilet trained.
With my little one i have a change table/bath that goes over the big bath wish had for the first 2. google little bear. it is great.
