That would drive me crazy! When DD was little we raised the cot base up so it was easier to put her in, but I still needed the rails down.

I just held onto the buttons as I raised up the rail so the noise wouldn't wake her. Easy as

I deliberately bought one with fixed sides...too many injuries with drop side cots even here in Australia. I am only 5 foot and have no problem lifting him in and out even when he is asleep...they are designed lower so you are leaning over down into the cot not up like the higher dropside cots.....if you are in toys r us have a close look at their cots, most of them are fixed side cots nowadays......we have never ever had an issue and I am such a shortie! Also the side turns into a toddler be side rail which is great as the mattress is nice and low to the ground if they fall out....also the mattress has adjustable heights os when they are little you have the mattress higher and only have to lower it when bubs can stand up in the cot.

ETA: not sure if you can see the link but this is the cot we have....the mattress is in the high position here for a little one...it can be moved down when they can stand up in the cot.

I see what you mean, probably need to check them out in store at some stage when I can be bothered going down to Sydney.

Same as most of the others I never used mine. I'm only average height and mine was a regular cot, but my sister has an Ikea one and it's much lower with fixed sides.
