Was just in Target to get cot sheets for use in July and on the back of some of the packs it said not suitable for children under 12months. Does anyone have any idea why? I was given some at my baby shower that didn't say this. Given that July is quite cold (and our baby room is as well) would it be okay to use when bubs comes home or not?
Wow. I have never heard of this - we used flanelette for our DS when he was a bub and we are planning too with this one as well. I have no idea why. Will be interested in others responses.
WOW thats weird... well we use flannelette cot sheets (normal sheets are SO cold in winter!) and at Big W they have a sale on flannelette basinette sheets so I don't think that they would be bad for babies. Maybe they weren't fire safe? Or they might have had printing or ink on it which makes it unsafe?
not entirely sure if it's meaning the plastic wrapping on the sheet set but it was a piece of tape type label on the cardboard the holds the sheets neat. The ones with the label are Target branded and the ones that don't have it are My Baby branded (received these at baby shower).
I have never ever heard of any such warning before!
For the record both my boys were on flannie sheets as bubs - Flynn was a June baby and there was no way I was putting a newborn on non-flanelette sheets in winter!
The flanelette sheets we are using are from Target. They didnt have any warning message on them and they seem fine. No idea why there would be a problem with some of them!
we used them last winter for ds and didnt have any issues or see an warnings - and both DH and I are BIG researchers!!! i will be using for this baby too - winter is too cold not to.. (you do have to watch for ovweheating generally though obviously)
I noticed this the other day as well! But the ones I brought were regular cotton cot sheets from Target, not flanelette ones. I thought it was a little odd to have a warning on cot sheets not to be used on 12 months and under.
The ones I got have the warnings on labels actually sewn into the seams, on both the fitted and flat sheet - next to the made in China label
mmmm..... We also use flannelette sheets for DS in winter - and they are 100% cotton so they breathe. As long as you wash them before use there shouldn't be an issue with breathing in dyes etc. The top sheet is a waste of time IMO anyway as all DS's sheets & rugs end up kicked off, so we just put him in a sleeping bag with flannelette as the bottom sheet. Perhaps you can contact the manufacturer to ask them why the warning?
It's Target brand so I can't be bothered trying to find out why - unless it's because there's a pillowcase in there and they're not recommended for under 12mths. Definately pre-washed them. Now just have to make the cot. I'm looking into the sleeping bag option on top of the sheets.
Did just try to check online about why they wouldn't be safe and Target online doesn't stock flannlette cot sheets Have decided to use them, the flat & fitted sheets (but not the pillow cases) anyway. I did pre-wash the sets so there shouldn't be any trouble with dyes and stuff.
jng1977 - they don't have the warning on the tags on the sheets though so I figure I can use them anyway.
Yeah... its weird, I have no idea why the sheets have the warning tags on them! I have washed mine anyway, and plan on using the fitted sheet as normal, cant see any reason why they are different to any other cotton sheets.
The ones I got were target brand as well, although not flanelette.. just regular cottong sheets ?? Beats me!
I don't understand this either, I have used flanelette sheets for both my children and have never seen this warning
I brought two sets from Target last week, I just went and checked the pack and it does have the warning. It's so small I didn't notice it before.
I've prewashed one set and they are on the cot (baby will be in our room in a bassinette to start with)and I'm still planning on using them but would love an explanation as to why they aren't safe?? Seems ridiculous to sell a product designed for babies and then say it's not safe for them??
I might have a look on the website and see if I can email someone about it.
