Hmmm, I haven't heard that study but I personally would be more concerned about wrapping my baby's matress in plastic from a hardware store!

Sounds a bit odd to me..and I would be very concerned about the suffocation risk (even if there are sheets over the plastic). Check out the SIDS website, I would probably disregard the info you've read.
