Question How would you prepare for twins?

I'm TTC atm and I'm not sure how we'd cope if we conceived twins. We have an old Camry, would three carseats fit? What kind of pram would be most practical? DD will be a few months off three years old, so doesn't necessarily need to be in a pram. We don't go on huge walks where she'd need to be in a pram.

What would you buy to prepare for twins?

A nanny and a house cleaner - only joking! But i have always been paranoid of concieving twins as they run in our family and I just don't know how I would cope but I have met some fantastic ladies who have twins and manage, not only to stay sane but to BF and gentle parent them both - they are my heroes!

Honestly if it were me I wouldn't buy very much at all until I really identified the need for something. I found with one I overbought and I wouldn't be wanting to waste twice the money when you can least afford it I have heard quite a few mummies have twins share a cot until they are bigger, obviously you would need two car seats and most twin families have had two high chairs so they can feed both at the same time.

    Are you hoping for twins?

DF's ego would be thrilled with twins, but I am not looking forward to having three under three. I guess I'm just thinking worst case scenario!

Naturally conceiving more than triplets, I'd love a nice magazine story payout thanks.

I am with you on the worst case scenario thinking - I would like to TTC #3 later this year and although I would be thankful for as many babies as I am blessed with I REALLY don't want twins LOL!

Do twins run in your family?
.......i was going to ask the same thing....why do you think you will conceive twins ???
Honestly, i would wait until you get your BFP and your see you ultrasound.....tossing up the 'what ifs' during conception will do your head in....

but, in saying that, i think i would freak out if i found out i was having twins....yeah, its all cutsey, and they will be best of mates blah, blah, but honestly...i dont know, i just think of the 2am feeds, will take doubel the time to feed, will they resettle...i dont know....not for me thanks.....

My best advice - cross that bridge if you come to it. We have twins on both sides and did wonder if we would be blessed (??? ) with two babies, but no, there is just one in there. It's not worth worrying until you actually get confirmation of twins. If that happens, then there is loads of help for parents expecting / who have multiples.

my friend has a 5 year old and her and her DH decided to try for another one, got a BFP straight away and are now 23 weeks with twin boys. They've had to upgrade the cars and are looking at possibly getting a bigger house. Not to mention shes had to cut down on work because she got massive really quickly.

There aren't any twins on either side of the family. DF's ego likes the idea of him with super twin making spermies, but me having to carry and birth and feed them both, um nup, no thanks. I'm in the 2WW, and its hell. I just really want to know if i'm utd or not.

Tiny question, a bit off topic, how soon can an ultrasound detect twins? I had scans at 12 and 20 weeks for DD, just wondering if I have to wait a whole 10 weeks from now.

blood tests at 5-6wks can detect HCG levels....which if high could indicate twins or a multiple birth ....i would say around 8wks you could see 1+ heartbeats.....
