There aren't any twins on either side of the family. DF's ego likes the idea of him with super twin making spermies, but me having to carry and birth and feed them both, um nup, no thanks. I'm in the 2WW, and its hell. I just really want to know if i'm utd or not.

Tiny question, a bit off topic, how soon can an ultrasound detect twins? I had scans at 12 and 20 weeks for DD, just wondering if I have to wait a whole 10 weeks from now.

blood tests at 5-6wks can detect HCG levels....which if high could indicate twins or a multiple birth ....i would say around 8wks you could see 1+ heartbeats.....

Thanks for that. Now I know I don't have to wait so long.

thats true re the blood tests though i have 4 friends with twins and 2 of them only found ut at ultrasound - 1 had an ultrasound at 12 weeks and found out the other did not want the NT scan so only found out at 20 wks... gp never picked up 2 heartbeats...

Oh geez, that would shock the heck out of us! At my first ultrasound with DD, the first thing I asked the sonographer was, "how many are in there?" and I wasn't kidding!

I read somewhere that the male has nothing to do with whether multiples are conceived.

It's the female body that releases two in eggs (in the case of fraternal twins) and with identical twins the egg seperates into two after it's been fertilised.

Twins run in my side of the family as well as DP's, actually they've skipped a few generations... they've also skipped us, but might grab DP's sis. Now that would be funny.
