Hushamok Hammock - stupid question time

I've bought a Hushamok second hand and today washed all the bits ready for #3's arrival - hopefully soon!

The board sort of thing that slots into the base has a plastic cover on it. Is it something that I should take off, or is it supposed to be some sort of waterproofing, protector thing?? The woman I bought it off said she only used it twice because she ended up co-sleeping so it sort of makes sense that she didn't remove it, even if its supposed to be ITMS. The instructions are pretty useless.

You leave the cover on Hun....it is the waterproofing in case of accidents...once it in inserted you never notice it!

Dan - their website is almost as useless as the instructions with the hammock!!
