Hun, Jolly Jumpers are safe provided they are set up correctly and bubs is monitored with them, and they are only used for limtied time periods.

I think the same could be said for your MIL- probably safe, but only if bubs is monitored when with her, and only use her for restricted periods of time

Yup they are safe, as long as the directions are followed correctly. Plus we always felt that being screwed directly into the ceiling was more secure than over the door (even though they provide a thing for that) but it felt a bit loose for us, so we didnt' do it.

My DS loved it - couldn't get enough of it. DD hated it so went in it twice I think.

We also had walkers, because they are good for a small period of time - ie, for a few minutes a day not a few hours! - and used with close supervision.

MIL's always have their own ideas though on whats best for your child

I had never really had an opinion on them until a lady at a baby expo told me that the way the seat thing is made that they sit in is actually pressing down directly on two main atteries that run through their legs... but I would imagine for short periods of time and under supervision they would be fine, just make sure that when they're in it they're able to support their own weight on their feet a little bit and not totally on their groin

bahahahaha, LoriRae!! Thats hilarious! Thats how i feel about my MIL!!

I think they're totally safe, just don't overdo them and make sure they're secure (As Arimeh said putting it on a door frame doesn't seem very sturdy for my liking). DD loved hers! They're heaps of fun too, i loved watching them jump around

Thanks so much everyone! I feel better now! I'm over-protective of our baby already If MIL gets a jolly jumper, I will let her know to only use it for a limited time

Yeah they are safe but I make sure I put Charlie so her feet can be flat on the ground. stops her being supported by the harness only. I did rock climbing and I used to get tingly legs so I know about the nerves and stuff there

Charlotte was in love with hers from the moment she could hold her head up until she was about 7 months old. (then we went away for months and she didnt have it anymore)

Anyway, like Mel we screwed ours directly into the ceiling (PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GET A BEAM NOT THE PLASTERBOARD!!!) as we didnt really have a doorway we could put it with enough space and just didnt think it was safe enough.
(They give you the pigs tail hook to use in the ceiling)

As for the whole nursery set up, tell her you think it is wonderful she is so eager, but get rid of the walker as you do not want bubs to use it and follow it with another ego stroking comment about how wonderful it will be to have a night off from bubs every now and then with her so close and so eager to watch the baby...
