Question Organic vs 'regular' cotton for baby

    Hello ladies (and gents),

Just wondering if many people have an opinion or some experience with organic cotton clothes/products for their child? I'm not generally someone who buys organic anything, mostly because of the higher price tag involved, but it's amazing how much your outlook changes with a baby on the way!

Does anyone know what the benefits are of using organic cotton (or other materials) on a baby? Is there much difference?

Part of the reason I ask is we are going to buy a Moses basket for downstairs (nursery is upstairs) and some brands have organic cotton lining, as opposed to regular cotton. Of course, they advertise it as being better and safer for baby, but they are much more expensive. So before we drop hundreds of $$ for organic products, any advice???

A lot of it depends on your ideals I think.

There is environmental impact from chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides from farming cotton and the manufacturing process. For me personally that would the reason I chose organic cotton.

I also believe that other reasons people choose organic is there could be chemical residue on the fabric which could be absorbed by their body when they wear it and cause issues such as allergy or other reactions.

I'm sure if you googled pros and cons of organic cotton you'd find stacks of interesting articles and debate

yeah, cotton farming uses a lot of chemicals that can be quite nasty, but depending on which stance you take in the whole environmental thing, all cotton production uses the same amount of water regardless of whether it is organic or not, so that is something else to think about too. For something like a bed, that is going to be used a lot and not regularly washed like clothes can be washed, I would probably go the organic.
